Having served at St. Elias Specialty Hospital since 2023, Mr. Werbiski is a dedicated registered nurse with a concentration in specialty rehabilitation. In his role as a charge nurse, house supervisor and mentor, he is responsible for ensuring proper staffing and overseeing the smooth operation of his unit or hospital. He plays a crucial role in helping patients regain functionality after significant life events such as strokes, heart attacks, amputations and traumatic brain injuries. His commitment to patient care extends to supporting the nursing staff and collaborating with various departments including administration, environmental services and therapy services.

Prior to reaching his position at St. Elias, Mr. Werbiski honed his skills at the Alaska Native Medical Center from 2017 to 2023, where he worked as a registered nurse specializing in critical care and emergency room trauma response. His tenure there was marked by his dedication to patient care and his ability to handle high-pressure situations effectively. Before that, he served at Maniilaq Health Center from 2016 to 2017, where he gained experience in acute care, emergency department operations and labor and delivery. His career began at Johnson City Medical Center in 2015, where he worked as a graduate nurse on the cardiac stepdown unit before advancing to a registered nurse position.

Mr. Werbiski's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Milligan University, completed in 2015. He is currently advancing his knowledge further by pursuing a Master of Science in nursing education at Western Governors University. His academic journey was influenced by the unwavering support of his family, particularly his mother and uncle Alex, both of whom instilled the values of hard work and perseverance. He is also immensely grateful to his aunt, Melissa Werbiski, who has been his primary outlet for guidance and advice throughout his life, as well as Dr. Amy Wilson, his former undergraduate professor who inspired him to gain valuable life experiences by working in Alaska.

Throughout his career, Mr. Werbiski has received numerous accolades for his exceptional patient care and work ethic. In 2024, he was recognized by the Anchorage Daily News and named Employee of the Month at St. Elias Specialty Hospital. His earlier honors include a nomination for the Nurse of the Year Award in the Rising Star category by March of Dimes in 2019 and recognition as the Critical Care Unit Employee of the Month at Alaska Native Medical Center.

In addition to spending quality time with his wife and their daughter, Mr. Werbiski enjoys outdoor activities such as playing chess, fishing, hiking and camping. Looking to the future, he plans to finish his master's degree and pursue a doctorate with the aim of educating future nurses. He emphasizes the importance of treating patients as individuals who deserve respect and understanding their needs beyond medical charts and checklists.
