SAN FRANCISCO, CA, February 28, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mwangi Mukami, MPA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As president of the MLIFE Foundation, Mr. Mukami has led groundbreaking initiatives that empower historically excluded youth through education, leadership development, and cultural immersion. In the San Francisco Bay Area, he spearheads Project Heal, a nonviolence prevention program that strengthens critical reading, expository writing, and leadership skills for Black youth. Participants receive mental health support, DNA testing, and a year-long Afrocentric leadership program that prepares them for college and career success. Those who complete the program embark on a fully funded, 10-day intercultural visit to Kenya, where they reconnect with their heritage and expand their global perspective. Now in its third year, Project Heal supports 15 to 25 youth annually, equipping them with the skills and confidence to lead.
Mr. Mukami's career spans education equity, reproductive health, LGBTQ+ advocacy, and social justice, bridging grassroots activism with large-scale policy change. Before founding MLIFE, he played a key role in housing advocacy and policy reform in the San Francisco Bay Area. As supportive housing manager at the Tenderloin Housing Clinic (2015–2018), he developed long-term housing solutions for individuals experiencing homelessness. His tenure as chair of the Shelter Monitoring Committee for the City and County of San Francisco (2014–2018) led to policy changes that improved shelter accessibility for survivors of domestic violence. Earlier, as a program supervisor at Episcopal Community Services (2011–2015), he designed initiatives to help marginalized communities achieve economic stability.
His commitment to policy-driven change began in Kenya, where he served as special advisor to Vice President Moody Awori (2002–2004), advocating for youth civic engagement and education reform. He later chaired both the Youth Parliament and Children's Parliament, championing policies that strengthened child rights, access to education, and youth representation in governance.
Despite early challenges with dyslexia and keratoconus, Mr. Mukami pursued his education with determination, earning degrees from some of the nation's top institutions. He holds a Master of Public Affairs from the Goldman School of Public Policy at the University of California, Berkeley (2020), a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations and Political Science, magna cum laude, from San Francisco State University (2018), and an Associate of Arts in Behavioral Sciences and Humanities from City College of San Francisco (2014). His personal experiences overcoming learning barriers and systemic obstacles fuel his passion for expanding access to education for underrepresented youth.
A recognized leader in nonprofit strategy, philanthropy, and global advocacy, Mr. Mukami advises high-net-worth individuals, policymakers, and social impact organizations on effective philanthropy and leadership development. His work has been honored with numerous awards, including the Georgia State Senate Resolution Award (2018) and the President's Volunteer Service Award (2013). As Founder and Chairperson of the Martin Luther King Jr. Africa Foundation (2005–2009), he led initiatives that trained over 1,400 emerging leaders in nonviolence and social justice, earning international recognition such as the Gandhi Peace Award.
Mr. Mukami credits his success to mentors who believed in him and the opportunities that shaped his journey. His work continues to expand through MLIFE's programs in the San Francisco Bay Area, Nairobi, Kilifi, and Accra, where he fosters education equity, social entrepreneurship, and leadership development. Looking ahead, he envisions a sustainable fund that will expand these programs, ensuring young leaders from historically excluded communities have the resources and mentorship needed to create lasting change.
