While pursuing his degree, he served as an event-fundraising coordinator for the WVU Student Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) from 2015 to 2016. Meanwhile, as a co-captain of the WVU Student Chapter of the ASCE Steel Bridge team, he led the team to their first-ever regional championship in school history as well as their second-ever participation in the national competition.

His academic background provided him with the technical knowledge and skills necessary for his professional achievements. He also holds several certifications, including Professional Engineer licenses from the Ohio PE Board and the West Virginia Board of Professional Engineers, as well as an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10 Hour certification and an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot (Drone) Certification.

Mr. Cottrill's dedication extends beyond his professional life into civic engagement and community service. He has participated in charity design work and canned food drives with Pickering Associates, demonstrating his commitment to giving back to the community. His efforts have been recognized through awards such as the Emerging Leader of West Virginia Award from Generation West Virginia, highlighting his leadership and impact within the state.

Born in Clarksburg, Mr. Cottrill enjoys spending time outdoors with his family, which includes his spouse and their two sons.
