Prior to his current role, Mr. Jacobson served as the director and chief investigator at the Metro Forensic Laboratory from 1983 to 1997. During this time, he was instrumental in establishing the laboratory's operations and ensuring its success. His journey into forensic science began unexpectedly when he was called upon to assist in a newly built forensic laboratory after the sudden departure of a forensic pathologist. This pivotal moment led him to pursue further certification and education in forensic science, ultimately shaping his career path.

Mr. Jacobson's academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in forensic science from Columbia Pacific University, obtained in 1993, and an Associate of Science in mortuary science from Commonwealth College of Science, completed in 1966. His education laid the foundation for his achievements in forensic investigations and contributed to his ability to provide accurate testimony in court. Additionally, he holds the designation of certified forensic examiner from the American College of Forensic Examiners.

Throughout his career, Mr. Jacobson has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to criminal investigations and public service. He received two gold medals from the American Police Hall of Fame for these achievements. In 1991, he was selected by the National Association of Medical Examiners as one of the top 10 death investigators in the country to collaborate on a training manual for aspiring investigators. This manual, published by Ferris State University, has been utilized both nationally and internationally.
