He started his career as an RF test engineer at California Microwave from 1983 to 1986, followed by positions as an RF design engineer at Astron Inc., Defense Systems Inc., and Spectrum Astro Inc. between 1986 and 1996. Mr. Fornwalt's work at Defense Systems Incorporated was particularly influential, where he learned the importance of taking action and risks, even if he knew it would not be perfect from the start. This lesson has carried him throughout his career.

From 1996 to 2000, Mr. Fornwalt served as a spacecraft system engineer at GORCA Inc., before becoming chief executive officer at Wavelet Inc. between 2000 and 2004. He then held senior roles at Moog Broad Reach and One Web Satellite before joining Airbus US Defense and Space LLC as a senior electrical engineering manager in 2020. Mr. Fornwalt's tenure at Earth Observant Inc., EOI Space, included positions as the director of avionics and vice president of engineering from 2020 to 2023.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Fornwalt earned an associate degree in electrical and electronics engineering from the Electronic Institute in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in 1983. This education gave him a strong foundation in theoretical knowledge and practical skills, which he has leveraged throughout his career. Despite financial constraints, Mr. Fornwalt chose a two-year technical school after leaving the military, allowing him to support his family while gaining valuable skills.

Throughout his career, Mr. Fornwalt has been involved in over 35 space programs and nearly 1,000 spacecraft, an achievement he considers notable. His work has spanned commercial, government and U.S. Department of Defense applications around Earth, with hardware sent to Mars and the moon. Mr. Fornwalt has also received several Presidential Awards from several companies and government accolades from the U.S. Air Force for his contributions to technology demonstrators.

Mr. Fornwalt plans to continue supporting the space industry by focusing on startup companies. He aims to share his wisdom with young engineers and new companies, helping them navigate challenges and avoid common pitfalls in the space sector.
