Having been honored with the title of Dean Emeritus at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2020, he has made significant contributions to the institution and the broader academic community before and after his retirement. His tenure as a professor at the same university began in 1970, marking a long-standing commitment to education and research.

Dr. Paulus's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Otterbein University in 1966. He furthered his education by earning a doctorate in social psychology from the University of Iowa in 1970. Additionally,, he is an active member of several esteemed organizations, such as the American Psychological Association and the Association of Psychological Science.

Reflecting on his career, Dr. Paulus attributes his success to the support and guidance of those who have accompanied him throughout his journey. His role as Dean of the College of Science in particular has allowed him to exercise creativity and significantly impact students and the university community.

Dr. Paulus has spent more than 30 years with his colleagues and students researching the group creative process. The many research papers and chapters from this work and 14 books have had a significant impact in the academic world and have influenced the practice of collaborative creativity world-wide. Early in his career he and his colleagues examined crowding in prisons which resulted in major changes in prison conditions. He was honored by the University of Texas at Arlington in 2007 with the Distinguished Record of Research Achievement.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. Paulus enjoys spending time with his wife and their two children. He also enjoys playing golf, reading and traveling. Looking ahead in his professional life, he aims to continue advancing his research and writing endeavors.
