An expert in nonprofit consulting, fundraising strategy, strategic planning and executive coaching, Mr. Rubio established his boutique consulting firm, Future Tense Strategies LLC, in September 2024. He serves as a development and strategy consultant with the Disability Policy Consortium in Boston, Massachusetts, a development consultant with the Friends of the Waltham Family School in Waltham, Massachusetts, and a senior research administrator with Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. His career has been marked by his dedication to advancing social impact initiatives, having secured more than $13 million for organizations focused on civil rights, legal assistance for veterans, youth interests, community development for historically underrepresented populations and support for immigrants.
Mr. Rubio's professional journey began with his role as a summer intern at the World Health Organization in 2015. He then served as a research assistant at the Pacific Island Partnership for Cancer Health Equity at the University of Guam in 2016. His commitment to public service continued as a policy and communications intern at the Guam Department of Public Health and Social Services that same year. Subsequently, he became the data and research director for the successful 2018 primary election campaign of Governor Lou Leon Guerrero and Lieutenant Governor Josh Tenorio in Guam. Later, Mr. Rubio worked as a development intern at the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence in Boston, Massachusetts. He also coordinated a green business grant program at the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management in Providence, Rhode Island.
In 2019, Mr. Rubio expanded his public health and policy expertise as a political research intern and associate at Fluent Knowledge LLC, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and as a health policy analyst for the Alliance of Community Health Plans in Washington, D.C. He also began tutoring high school, undergraduate and graduate students from across the U.S. in economics, STEM, standardized test preparation and college applications. From 2020 to 2022, he worked as a program coordinator and operations and business development specialist in the enterprise and community development department at PYXERA Global, a Washington, D.C.-based international development NGO.
Mr. Rubio's academic background includes a bachelor's degree in public policy studies with a specialization in health and development from the University of Chicago. His education has been instrumental in driving his career achievements, providing a strong foundation in policy analysis, health equity and nonprofit development strategy. He holds several certifications, including a CSV practitioner's certificate from the Shared Value Initiative and a protecting human research participants certification from the National Institutes of Health Office of Extramural Research.
Mr. Rubio's civic involvement is highlighted by his work as a community grant reviewer for the United Way of Massachusetts Bay and Merrimack Valley in 2023 and as a grant writer and social development intern for Gawad Kalinga USA from 2017 to 2022. He was recognized with a Young Filipino-American Achiever Award from Gawad Kalinga in 2017. These experiences reflect his commitment to holistic community development, social entrepreneurship and systemic change.
Mr. Rubio was born in New Haven and enjoys cooking, cycling, traveling, exploring local culture and writing. He has recently launched his own nonprofit consulting business with aspirations to expand into the health equity and policy spaces. Additionally, he dreams of establishing a social enterprise focused on global public health equity while exploring avenues for further education through graduate school.
