Niro, Haller & Niro and its predecessors pioneered contingency work for patent owners. Instead of charging an hourly rate, the firm's fees were based on the outcome of the case, with the firm receiving a percentage of the result once it was collected. While working at the firm for nearly 40 years, Mr. Haller achieved one of his most significant accomplishments by serving as the lead trial counsel in a case brought by his client, Lear Corporation (a subsidiary of his long time client, United Technologies Corporation), against Johnson Controls in Detroit in early 2011, acquiring a substantial settlement. Securing such a victory stands as a testament to his litigation skills and dedication to his clients.

Mr. Haller's legal acumen is further supported by his membership in several prestigious organizations, including the New York State Bar Association, the Illinois State Bar Association, The Florida Bar, as well as his registration as a patent attorney and agent before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Together, these affiliations underscore his commitment to maintaining high standards within the legal profession and staying abreast of developments in his areas of expertise. Moreover, his educational background has proven instrumental in shaping his successful career.

In 1968, Mr. Haller earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Clarkson University, served as an officer in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1970, and then pursued a Juris Doctor at Georgetown University Law School, where he graduated in 1974 and was a member of the school's Law Review. Together, his technical knowledge combined with his legal training has enabled him to excel in complex intellectual property cases. In reflecting on his professional journey, Mr. Haller attributes his ability to accomplish a high level of achievement to the unwavering support of his family, particularly his wife.
