He currently serves as the chief marketing officer at Northern Essex Community College in Massachusetts. Mr. Paul's many responsibilities include overseeing a full-service in-house marketing and communications team whose work has been recognized with multiple awards from the National Council for Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Additionally, he is the owner of Brand Socket, a venture he has managed since 2018.
Prior to his current roles, Mr. Paul served as the director of communications and marketing at Springfield Technical Community College, where he also served as public information officer, co-chaired an LGBTQ+ employee resource group and played a pivotal role in establishing an anti-racism alliance. His earlier career included marketing and recruitment at the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 2017 to 2018 and a role as the director of marketing at HeyWire Inc. from 2015 to 2017. At Rocket Software, he was the director of digital strategy from 2012 to 2015.
Mr. Paul's career began with roles such as chief listener at EMC, where his work was honored by AdAge magazine, and online experience manager at MassMutual. He also held positions as web marketing manager at Western New England University and athletic development manager at UMass Amherst. His academic contributions include serving as adjunct faculty in journalism at UMass Amherst between 2000 and 2012, where his course was honored as a program of excellence by the University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) in 2006.
Mr. Paul's educational background is extensive. He holds a Master of Science in management from the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor of Arts in sociology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He furthered his expertise with an executive certificate in consumer marketing from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and an advanced workshop in design theory from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). His professional certifications are numerous, including human-centered strategy from IDEO U, value chain management and strategic leadership and management specializations from the Gies College of Business, project management professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute Inc., and a professional certified marketer (PCM) designation from the American Marketing Association. Mr. Paul is also a certified facilitator with the Center for Appreciative Inquiry.
Known for his deep commitment to his work, in 2012, Mr. Paul was recognized as a Retail Thought Leader by Babson College and received a 2021 Rising Star award from NCMPR. In 2011, he was a key contributor to the launch of the marketing industry's first professional credential in social media from the National Institute of Social Media (NISM).
He is passionate about using marketing to connect communities with educational values. From 2018 to 2020, Mr. Paul served in leadership roles for the Historical Commission, Cultural Council, and Master Plan Implementation Committee for the Town of South Hadley. Mr. Paul is a life member of and an active contributor to the UMass Amherst Alumni Association, through which he led the endowment of two new leadership scholarships. In 2017, UMass Amherst's renowned Minuteman Band inducted Mr. Paul into its Hall of Fame. Additionally, he and his siblings have awarded over 20 scholarships, honoring the lives of their parents and helping students earn a postsecondary education since 2010.
Outside his professional life, Mr. Paul is a self-described Trekkie and enjoys cultural exploration through cooking, art, music and traveling. He is an avid reader of novels, semiotics and leadership theory.
