HAYWARD, CA, March 21, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Roger Lee Hooks Jr. has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Hooks is the distinguished creative director at Supermicro, where he has been instrumental in transforming the company's creative marketing team since 2006 and under his leadership since 2014. Since then, the team has evolved from undervalued to respected and integral to the department. Mr. Hooks' ability to understand and appreciate his team's roles has significantly raised expectations and recognized their contribution as valuable assets. Based in California, Supermicro designs and manufactures AI data center building block server and storage solutions and other technology solutions.
Before assuming his current role, Mr. Hooks ran his boutique design firm, Hooks Creative, as the principal from 1996 to 2003. Here, he honed his skill in high-impact design tools to stand out from the competition. Mr. Hooks carved out a niche in the consumer electronics market, helping Pacific Rim companies that found it difficult to get placement on retail shelves to become leaders in the category. Mr. Hooks prides himself on telling prospective customers that his portfolio can be seen on the shelves of Fry's Electronics, Good Guys, Circuit City, CompUSA, Best Buy, Micro Center, Ritz Camera and Computer City. He would tell them to look for the products with the most faces on the shelves. Those are his customers. The more faces they have, the better they are selling. Retail stores prioritize real estate for the products that move the best. Mr. Hooks sold his service on not only what looked the best but what also looks, sold the best. This became his primary focus throughout the rest of his career. Mr. Hooks also landed clients such as Paramount, and Universal while marketing titles for such names as rap artist Snoop Dogg and comedians Cedric the Entertainer and Kat Williams.
From 2006 to 2010 Mr. Hooks served as a graphic designer and then moved up to manager and senior manager of graphic design at Supermicro from 2011 to 2014. During this period, Mr. Hooks often worked 12 to 16-hour days tackling the challenge of increasing the appeal of a U.S. company with a strong Asian culture and honed his skills in brand and corporate identity, advertising, graphic design, multimedia, 3D animation, and video production to increase their appeal to western culture. His expertise in these areas has been pivotal in elevating the company's visual communication strategies. Earlier, as a graphic designer, Mr. Hooks laid the groundwork for his future successes by developing innovative design solutions. Besides his contributions at Supermicro, he had the opportunity to serve as vice president of sales and marketing at Belm Designs in San Jose, California, from 2007 to 2012. In this capacity, he created package design, print advertising, mail-order catalogs, flyers, t-shirt artwork, logos, and illustrations based on product criteria and target customers.
Always determined to maximize time to return on investment, Mr. Hooks enrolled in a specialized art school where he received an Associate of Science in graphic design and visual communication. This allowed him to minimize the financial burden of his education and begin making a living as much as three years before his contemporaries, gaining on-the-job experience in prepress, offset printing, digital printing, typesetting, and computer graphics. This experience put him in a position to begin teaching MSWord and Dreamweaver at workshops offered by the Silicon Valley Black Chamber of Commerce.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Hooks is actively involved in civic organizations. He serves as the president of the Alameda County Knight-Raptors and event director for public relations marketing and sponsorships with the North American Model Boat Association. Additionally, he chairs the board of directors for the Silicon Valley African-American Chamber of Commerce and volunteers as a Bible study mentor with the Santa Clara County Jail Ministry Program.
Mr. Hooks's success is deeply rooted in the values instilled by his parents, who encouraged him to set realistic goals and persevere through challenges. This mindset has been a driving force throughout his career, beginning when he entered the creative industry at age 17. His journey included roles as a pay stub artist, semi-artist, typesetter, production artist, and eventually a graphic designer before joining Supermicro.
Mr. Hooks' contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including Platinum, Gold and Silver MarCom Awards in 2011 and 2013. These awards underscore his commitment to excellence in creative marketing.
In the future, Mr. Hooks remains dedicated to pursuing several outside ventures, including establishing a film production partnership focused on increasing diversity in the film industry. He also envisions completing a radio-controlled vehicle park he has been designing. Through dedication and determination, Mr. Hooks continues to make significant professional and personal strides while maintaining strong relationships within his industry and community.
