Her work at Zuni Elementary School included pioneering the use of Promethean boards for interactive lessons, showcasing her dedication to integrating technology into education. Furthermore, Ms. Vigil's expertise in developing individualized education programs for students with learning disabilities was pivotal in helping them transition into regular classes when they were ready.
Before pivoting into public school education, Ms. Vigil was affiliated with Fred Astaire Dance Studios from 1978 to 1980, where she honed her skills in dance, culminating in a first-place win at the Fred Astaire National Cross Country Dance Championship Professional Division in 1978. Ms. Vigil's diverse career also included serving in the New Mexico National Guard between 1977 and 1980, an experience that instilled discipline and resilience.
In preparation for her future, Ms. Vigil received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from MacMurray College in 1976. She furthered her education with a master's degree in special education from the University of New Mexico in 1981, along with additional coursework in elementary and gifted education.
Ms. Vigil's passion for learning extended beyond the classroom. She actively participated in workshops and continuously updated her teaching methods to align with current educational trends. Her approach was heavily influenced by Sandra Thomassen, a principal who provided early guidance and support, and several colleagues who shared her dedication to teaching excellence. In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Vigil supports the National Audubon Society and the World Wildlife Fund, reflecting her commitment to civic-minded organizations.
