CHICAGO, IL, March 24, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Regina D. Lewis, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Lewis is a distinguished leader in the field of community development and recovery services. Serving as the chief executive officer of Ashunti Residential Management Systems Inc. since 1992, she has been instrumental in overseeing all operations within the organization. Her role involves managing 50 interconnected organizations that collaborate to fulfill both individual missions and a broader community vision. She is also actively involved with clients in housing programs and community centers, responding to calls for assistance and attending meetings to improve her community.
Through Ashunti Residential Management Systems Inc., Dr. Lewis is dedicated to assisting homeless individuals, ex-offenders, survivors of domestic violence and those living with HIV. Initially focused on helping women regain custody of their children, her firm has expanded to include housing programs for men, women and independent households, as well as support for runaway and homeless youth. The organization also provides job training through its culinary and transportation companies, helping ex-offenders secure employment.
Before her tenure at Ashunti Residential Management Systems Inc., Dr. Lewis served as partner and chief executive officer of New Beginnings Recovery Homes from 1989 to 1992. During this time, she developed and managed several recovery programs, collaborating with Otis Williams from the Catholic Center to expand services. Her commitment to continuous care, her excellent problem-solving skills and her effort to develop recovery homes have been widely recognized.
Initially intending to become a physician, Ms. Lewis faced challenges in her own life and sought recovery at Narcotics Anonymous, where she attended meetings and utilized her education to develop policies and procedures. Her eagerness to take action eventually led to a paid position in the organization, where she got her start in the recovery sector.
Dr. Lewis's career achievements include being featured twice as "Someone You Should Know" on Channel 7 by Harry Porterfield. She is also proud to be the president of the Hope Coalition and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her dedication to public service was acknowledged with the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2005 and the Hero Community Impact Award from Channel 2 in 2006.
Academically, Dr. Lewis earned her doctorate from Larry Love University in 2016 after completing a bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in chemistry at Jackson State University in 1983. Beyond her education, she attributes much of her success to the motivation provided by her parents, particularly her mother, who played an instrumental role in her journey by providing initial funding for her endeavors. This support helped shape Dr. Lewis's perspective and drive to succeed.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Lewis enjoys watching movies, spending time with her son, going downtown and sightseeing in her free time. She is also involved in civic work, contributing to numerous charities throughout her life. Personally, she is most proud of being clean for more than 35 years and still in recovery herself, aiding her in helping others.
Looking toward the future, Dr. Lewis plans to expand Ashunti Residential Management Systems by adding independent and permanent housing options alongside supportive services for residents. Additionally, she aims to initiate housing projects and community centers in Jackson, Mississippi, addressing the lack of recovery homes for women transitioning out of penitentiaries. Dr. Lewis also plans to convert a restaurant she inherited into a community center that will serve as a catering company, having received multiple 6-figure grants to improve and expand recovery services to new facilities and populations.
