Karahadian & Associates, LLC since 2017, she has specialized in sensory training and consumer-driven product development testing techniques. Her consulting business focuses on providing expertise in sensory program development and quantitative consumer testing for both food and non-food categories. Dr. Karahadian's work involves collaborating with large corporations and startups to train expert panelists in taste and smell, equipping them with the necessary tools to implement successful programs.

Before establishing her own company, Dr. Karahadian served as the director of global sensory and consumer science at Starbucks Coffee Company from 2011 to 2017. In this role, she developed programs and identified areas for product development, leveraging her extensive experience to enhance the company's offerings. Prior to her tenure at Starbucks, she was the vice president of global sensory at Firmenich SA from 1995 to 2011. During her time there, she developed programs worldwide across Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the United States, empowering individuals in the field and watching them flourish.

Dr. Karahadian's academic journey began with a master's degree followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in Food Science and Flavor Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1986. Her passion for chemistry was influenced by her father's advice that there will always be food, leading her to pursue a career in food science. She credits her success to the support of her family and mentors like Dr. Robert C. Lindsay, a trailblazer in flavor chemistry, who guided her during her doctoral studies.

Her career also includes roles as an assistant professor at both the University of Maryland, College Park and Purdue University in the Department of Food and Nutrition. These positions allowed her to blend technical expertise with personal qualities that connect with people, drawing out their best attributes. Her dedication to mentoring and teaching is evident through her strong connections with students and colleagues.

Dr. Karahadian has been an active member of several industry-related organizations including the American Chemical Society, Institute of Food Technologists, and Society of Sensory Professionals. Her contributions have been recognized with awards such as Woman of the Year by Women in Flavor and Fragrance Commerce Inc. in 2013 and induction into the Hall of Fame by Purdue University's Department of Foods and Nutrition in 2017.

In addition to her professional achievements, Dr. Karahadian is committed to civic engagement. She serves as a board member for Saint Francis Living Room, a nonprofit organization providing meals for low-income seniors and homeless individuals in San Francisco. Her involvement extends to being a member of the Board of Visitors at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Born in San Francisco, Dr. Karahadian grew up on a walnut farm which instilled in her a love for the outdoors. She enjoys hiking, walking, and traveling as part of her personal life outside of work. Looking ahead, she plans to focus more on volunteering and giving back to the community.
