Prior to this, Dr. Baumert briefly served as a physician with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in 2022, where he applied his skills to support veterans' health.

From 2020 to 2022, Dr. Baumert was a staff physician at McFarland Clinic, delivering comprehensive primary care to patients. His tenure as the section chief at the urgent care clinic at Broadlawns Medical Center between 2011 and 2020 highlighted his leadership abilities in managing urgent care services. Concurrently, he worked as an urgent care locums physician at Mercy Iowa City/Coralville from 2009 to 2015, demonstrating his adaptability and commitment to patient care.

Dr. Baumert's earlier career included serving as a staff physician at the University of Iowa Student Health Service, where he played a pivotal role in student health care and became president of the North Central College Health Association. His work at College Park Family Care Center and Kaiser Permanente also influenced his reputation as a dedicated family medicine practitioner. Dr. Baumert's medical career began as a faculty physician at Goppert Family Care Center.

In addition to his clinical roles, Dr. Baumert has been actively involved with the U.S. Olympic team since 1992, serving as the deputy chief physician during the Beijing Paralympics and contributing significantly to American athletes' health and performance. He also served as a team doctor for the University of Iowa football team from 2000 to 2010, caring for players, families and coaches during many successful seasons and bowl games.

Dr. Baumert's educational background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. He earned a bachelor's degree in general science from the University of Iowa in 1983 and a Doctor of Medicine from the University of Iowa in 1987. His residency in family medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center concluded in 1990, followed by a fellowship in primary care sports medicine at Hughston Sports Medicine Center in Columbus, Georgia, in 1992.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Dr. Baumert's memberships in esteemed organizations such as the Hughston Society and University of Kansas Medical Alumni reflect his commitment to professional development and collaboration within the medical community. He has also been actively engaged in civic activities and creative pursuits. He served as an instructor for the American Red Cross and participated in musical ensembles such as the Columbus Symphony Chorale and the Kansas City Symphony Chorus. Dr. Baumert also remains committed to positively impacting his local community through volunteer work with organizations like local food banks.

While he no longer seeks full-time health care positions, he continues to offer his expertise as a consultant, driven by a desire to help where there is a need. His success has been predicated on his diverse experiences and desire to make a difference.
