Her dedication to this cause was inspired by her grandson, who was diagnosed with the condition in May 2021. Dr. Sasser's professional journey also includes a tenure as a lab technician at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where she honed her skills in scientific research and laboratory management. In addition, she has made significant contributions to the film industry as a producer with Frieder Films LLC since 2011. She co-produced the documentary "Rescue in the Philippines," highlighting her versatility and commitment to impactful storytelling. Her involvement in this project is one of her proudest achievements.
Laying the foundation for Dr. Sasser's successful career in biochemistry and her current leadership role at the MAO Deficiency Foundation was her academic background. She first earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Vanderbilt University in 1975, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in biochemistry from the University of Texas Medical Branch in 1983.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Sasser is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the Alliance for Regenerative Medicine and the American Society of Gene & Cell Therapy, affiliations that reflect her commitment to staying at the cutting edge of scientific advancements and professional development. She is also member of the United States Tennis Professional Association.
Dr. Sasser's civic involvement is equally impressive. She served as a past president and board member of Temple B'nai Israel in Galveston from 2011 to 2017 and was a leader and national fundraiser for La Leche League International from 1985 until 1998. Additionally, she holds board memberships with the Harris & Eliza Kempner Fund and the Sasser Family Foundation, and she has served as a past president of the Galveston County Recovery Fund.
