Before launching Designer Nanocrystals LLC, Dr. Narayanan served as a patent agent at Global Graphene Group in Germantown from 2021 to 2023, where she was instrumental in managing intellectual property related to graphene technologies by writing responses to office actions from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Her patent expertise was also honed during her tenure as a patent manager and engineer/technical writer at Robotic Research LLC, a leading provider of autonomous systems for defense and space manufacturing, between 2019 and 2021. Earlier, Dr. Narayanan worked as a patent agent with Cesari and McKenna LLP in 2017, an intellectual property law firm in Boston.

Dr. Narayanan's career also included significant academic contributions. From 2008 to 2013, she was an assistant professor of chemistry at the University of Rhode Island, where she inspired future scientists through her teaching and research. She also served in postdoctoral research associate roles at Iowa State University, Arizona State University and the University of Utah between 2005 and 2008. Dr. Narayanan's doctoral thesis, "Shape-Dependent Nanocatalysis and the Effect of Catalysis on the Shape and Size of Colloidal Metal Nanoparticles," remains a cornerstone of her scholarly work.

In preparation for her future, Dr. Narayanan received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from Armstrong State University in 2000, followed by a Doctor of Philosophy in analytical chemistry from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2005.

Dr. Narayanan's professional affiliations include membership in the American Chemical Society, the Materials Research Society and the Association of Women in Science. She has also contributed as a reviewer for Nano Letters and The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, reflecting her standing in the scientific community. Her scholarly output includes over 30 academic publications.

In recognition of her academic excellence, Dr. Narayanan has received multiple fellowships while at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She has also received several prestigious awards, such as the Most Highly Accessed Paper Award from the American Chemical Society in 2005.
