ANNAPOLIS, MD, March 26, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael H. Heuer, MA, MEd, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Heuer has dedicated his career to serving others through his roles in the military, academia, and marriage and family counseling. He currently works as an independent contractor trainer, coach, and seminar leader in collaboration with LivingWorks Education, a position he has held since 2018. His primary work focuses on suicide prevention and intervention skills training, reflecting his commitment to addressing critical issues within both civilian and military communities.

Dr. Heuer's extensive academic career began as a teaching assistant in German and ancient Greek at Bob Jones University from 1978 to 1984. He then served as an associate professor at Western Reformed Seminary from 1987 to 1990. His transition to active duty in the United States Air Force in 1993 marked the beginning of a distinguished military career that spanned over two decades. During his tenure with the Air Force, he held various chaplaincy roles, including Air Force ISR Agency Staff Chaplain from 2009 to 2011 and San Antonio Joint Base Senior Chaplain from 2011 to 2013, in which role he received the rare opportunity to be the Reviewing Officer for a USAF Basic Military Training graduation ceremony - a privilege normally reserved for senior-ranking military officers. His efforts in addressing suicidal ideation and sexual assault, harassment, and inappropriate relationships within the military were particularly notable throughout his time as a military chaplain.

From 2013 until his military retirement after December 2017, Dr. Heuer served in a joint Department of Defense position as the National Security Agency Staff Chaplain. In that role, he was the senior chaplain within the United States Intelligence Community. His significant contributions across several Department of Defense agencies were recognized with the Defense Superior Service Medal awarded by Secretary of Defense James Mattis (General, USMC, Retired). Additionally, he was invited to serve on a White House Interagency Policy Committee on foreign religious leader engagement, which resulted in his invitation to attend the White House welcoming ceremony for Pope Francis in September 2015. In addition to his military service, he has been involved in academia as adjunct faculty at the United States Air Force Chaplain Corps College from 2001-2003, an adjunct instructor for the University of Maryland Global Campus in Kuwait from 2010 to 2011, and an associated faculty member at Denver Seminary from 2017 to 2018.

Dr. Heuer's academic background as a student includes a Doctor of Philosophy and a Master of Arts, both in religion and religious studies from Bob Jones University, and a Bachelor of Arts in music from the same university. He also holds a Master of Education degree in Counselor Education (Agency Counseling track) from the University of Puget Sound and a Master of Military Operational Art and Science degree from the USAF's Air Command and Staff College.

Complementing his education, his certifications include Clinical Fellow of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy as well as certifications as a safeTALK suicide alertness program trainer and coach and a Consulting Trainer in ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) from LivingWorks Education in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Dr. Heuer's professional memberships include the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the Air and Space Association, the Disabled American Veterans, the Reserve Organization of America, the American Legion, and the Military Chaplains Association of the USA, for which he has served on the Board of Directors since 2018.

In recognition of his various achievements, Dr. Heuer has received the Defense Superior Service Medal (2017) and the Emerson Foundation Award from the Military Chaplains Association (2020). He also received recognition as Outstanding Field Grade Officer at RAF Alconbury, United Kingdom (2003), Company Grade Officer of the Year at Ramstein Air Base, Germany (1999), and the Air Force Association Company Grade Officer of the Year in the State of Colorado (1997). In his musical role, he won the Music Teachers National Association Outstanding Brass Musician Award in 1977 for both the State of South Carolina and the Southeastern USA region.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Heuer is actively involved in numerous civic organizations. He has served as a board member for the North River Forest Property Owners Association since 2018, a volunteer trainer in the suicide prevention program at Fort Meade, Maryland, and an active volunteer in his local congregation, where he has served as a member of the Congregational Council since 2018.

Dr. Heuer attributes his success to his desire to make the world a better place through the skills he has cultivated. He also credits his faith and places emphasis on education, believing that continuous learning presents new opportunities for him to make a difference. In the upcoming years, he plans to continue focusing on suicide intervention skills training and mentoring others while planning for eventual retirement. He hopes to further expand his work internationally, having already conducted training in Korea, Japan, England, Germany, Greece, Africa, and Australia.

In his personal life, Dr. Heuer is passionate about music. He plays trombone with two "big band" jazz ensembles in the Baltimore area and has also performed with a rock and roll "horn band" in New York State. He is fluent in German and has limited communication skills in Hebrew and Arabic. He enjoys the outdoors, including travel, hiking, and Alpine skiing.
