He is adept at fitting spectacles, taking critical measurements for bifocals, progressives, no-line lenses and trifocals, and selecting appropriate lens types and coatings. His expertise in the field is underscored by his membership in several industry-related organizations, including the Opticians Association of America since 1998 and the Tennessee Dispensing Opticians Association since 1996. In 1998 he received fellow status in the National Academy of Opticianry.

Mr. Owens's career is marked by significant achievements, notably being named Manager of the Year in 2009 from 1,200 stores across the United States and Canada. This accolade was a career highlight, involving a trip to Philadelphia and New Jersey for commendation events. Additionally, he was honored as one of the Top Five Opticians of the Year at Sam's Club in 2024, further cementing his reputation in the optical field. He was also nominated for and gained inclusion into Outstanding Young Men of America.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from Blue Mountain College in 1983. This academic foundation laid the groundwork for his professional journey. In 1998, he earned his certification as a licensed optician after passing national examinations for spectacles and contact lenses and state boards in Nashville. His lifelong interest in opticianry began at age six when he started wearing spectacles, which fueled his passion for helping others gain the gift of sight.

Family has been a cornerstone of Mr. Owens's success. Despite the loss of his twin brother to glioblastoma, stage four brain cancer, his family's encouragement has been a driving force throughout his career. Their belief in his potential inspired him to pursue higher achievements and instilled the confidence to excel in his profession.

Outside his professional life, Mr. Owens enjoys collecting antiques, paintings, rare collections and movie memorabilia. He is an avid reader with an extensive book collection and appreciates classic films. Born in Memphis, he shares these interests with his son, Brandon Owens.

Encouraged by a long-time acquaintance who is a master optician, he is determined to pursue this goal now that he has more time available.
