SIMPSONVILLE, SC, March 31, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- J. David Arnold, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Arnold, a distinguished academic leader and administrator, has significantly contributed to higher education. He served as the 26th president of Eureka College in Eureka, Illinois, for 11 years. He retired from Eureka as president emeritus in 2016 and subsequently served as interim provost at Salve Regina University and Keystone College.

Dr. Arnold's presidential tenure has marked some of the strongest and most successful years in the college's history. Under his leadership, the college achieved record enrollment, balanced budgets, $35 million in private donor support, and more than 30 new endowed scholarships, nearly doubling the college endowment from $12 to over $20 million. Additionally, Eureka saw more than $30 million in campus improvements, including the construction of a new residence hall, a new Sanders classroom and laboratory building, and a new fitness center. The college also established the Shenkman Reagan Research Center in the library and transformed the Reagan gym into the Christine Bonati Bollwinkle Arena and Convocation Center. Other achievements during this period include the creation of visiting scholar, artist and executive programs.

The Eureka College campus was designated a National Historic District in 2010 for its importance in American history, having graduated 42 college presidents, seven governors and members of Congress, and the 40th President of the United States. Building on the legacy of creating servant leaders, the school launched the Reagan Forward initiative in 2008. Related events include a 2011 national academic conference on "Reagan and the Midwest" and campus lectures by dozens of Reagan authors. Under the Reagan Leadership Program, Eureka established the Honorary Reagan Fellow Award, which featured such notable recipients as Mikhail Gorbachev and Justice Sandra Day O'Connor. The college hosted national events to celebrate the Reagan fellowships of former Secretaries of State George Shultz and James Baker.

Dr. Arnold previously served as the vice president for academic and student affairs at Missouri Western State University, provost at St. John Fisher College, and dean and grants officer at Clarion University. He began his academic career as a professor teaching psychology and writing at St. Lawrence University.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Dr. Arnold has been actively involved in various civic organizations. He has served on the school improvement council at Fountain Inn High School and the board of advisors for the PRISMA YMCA of Greenville. He is a past board member of Academic Search and has chaired the Council for Christian Colleges & Universities under the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). He was also an academic trustee with the Lincoln Academy of Illinois.

As an academic leader and author, Dr. Arnold has focused on learning communities, strategic planning, and promoting the "teacher-scholar" model of faculty professional development at liberal arts institutions. His dedication earned him recognition as an honorary fellow by the National Learning Community Project. Additionally, in honor of Dr. and Mrs. Arnold, the Eureka board of trustees established the J. David and Katherine Arnold Leadership Fund and changed the name of the newest residence hall to Arnold Hall.

Dr. Arnold attributes much of his success to the influence of great mentors throughout his life, who fueled his passion for education and student advocacy. Eager for future success, he continues to seek opportunities to consult on student learning and student learning communities, reflecting his lifelong commitment to education and community service.
