Mr. Boston is a distinguished attorney and partner at the Texas-based firm of Shackelford, McKinley & Norton, LLP, where he has worked since 2017. With over 45 years of experience in business litigation in Dallas, he is recognized as an expert in his field. His practice involves managing cases through alternative dispute resolution, trial, and appeal. His work has been the subject of over 30 published opinions - - including cases before the Texas Supreme Court and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Before joining the Shackelford firm, Mr. Boston was a shareholder at Winstead PC from 1997 to 2017; an associate and then a shareholder at Payne & Vendig P.C. from 1981 to 1997; and an associate at the Shank Irwin firm from 1978 to 1981.
For his education, Mr. Boston earned a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in economics), cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa in 1975, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1978, with both degrees coming from the University of Texas at Austin. He has maintained board certification in Civil Appellate Law and Civil Trial Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization for over 30 years.
Complementing his legal practice, Mr. Boston is actively involved in several legal professional organizations, including the State Bar of Texas as a former chair of its Litigation Section and Council of Chairs, and a former member of its board of directors. He's also a member (and former chair) of the Dallas Bar Association's Business Litigation Section, the former Chair of the Dallas Bar Foundation, and a current member of the Board of Trustees for the Texas Bar Foundation.
He has also contributed significantly to civic organizations, including the Texas Business Hall of Fame Foundation (as its former chair) and the World Affairs Council of Dallas/Fort Worth (as a past director for 12 years). As a long-time Dallas resident, he's served on advisory boards at Southern Methodist University - - including the John Tower Center for Political Studies, the Perkins School ofTheology, the SMU Athletic Forum, and the Gary M. Maguire Center for Ethics and Public Responsibility.
Outside of his legal career, Mr. Boston series as a Contributing Columnist for the Dallas Morning News (for which he's written over 100 Op-Ed pieces and book reviews) and has written extensively for the Dallas Business Journal and the Texas Bar Journal.
In addition to his legal and journalistic careers, Mr. Boston is a celebrated historian and author of five books that have focused on presidential, legal, and baseball history. His works have garnered endorsements from such notable figures as John Grisham, Frank Deford, Ken Bums, David McCullough, Doris Keams Goodwin, Jon Meacham, former U.S. Secretary of State James A. Baker, III, and former U.S. Attorney General Dick Thomburgh. His expertise as a presidential historian has been featured on C-SPAN, National Fox News, and Forbes.
As a public speaker, Boston has presented programs at the National Archives, seven presidential libraries, fourteen World Affairs Council Chapters (in major cities all over the country), fifteen major American universities, the White House Historical Association, Mount Vernon, Monticello, and the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Mr. Boston's achievements have been recognized with the following awards: the Luke Soules Award from the Litigation Section of the State Bar of Texas; the Terry Lee Grantham and Dan Rugeley Price Awards from the Texas Bar Foundation; the History Maker of the Year Award from the Dallas Historical Society; the Mallon Circle Award from the World Affairs Council ofD/FW; and he's been inducted into the Texas Baseball Hall of Fame as a Media Member.
Mr. Boston remains committed to practicing law and has no plans for retirement, and intends to continue writing for publication works of history and Op-Ed essays. He's been married for over 40 years to Claire Lindsey Boston; is the father of son Scott and daughter Lindsey; and the father-in-law to Mitchell Miller; and the grandfather to Nolan and Miles Miller.
