HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL, April 01, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Anthony L. Onagan has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Onagan has established himself as a distinguished figure in the fields of architecture and real estate. Since 2019, he has served as the director of real estate and workplace at the Central Territorial Headquarters of the Salvation Army USA. In this role, he oversees a vast portfolio valued at approximately $1.5 billion and manages nine divisions across ten states, encompassing over 2,000 buildings. His responsibilities include supervising the construction of twelve types of structures, each with its own distinct building type and architectural design, and ensuring timely completion despite budget constraints. Mr. Onagan's expertise in looking at real estate through both architectural and brokerage perspectives has ensured his success in these endeavors.
Mr. Onagan's career began with his role as a designer at VOA Associates from 1991 to 1994, followed by a designer position at Gary Lee Partners from 1994 to 1997. From 1997 to 2005, he honed his skills as a senior designer at Gensler, where his work earned him recognition in prestigious publications such as Interiors Magazine. He also received accolades for the best corporate interior projects in 1992 and 1993. Transitioning to senior roles, Mr. Onagan was a senior project manager for corporate services at Grubb & Ellis-BRE Commercial LLC from 2005 to 2010.
In 2010, Cushman & Wakefield recruited Mr. Onagan to become the vice president of their corporate services division. He served in this role until 2019, working with high-profile clients like Liberty Mutual and Allianz. One of his most notable achievements with the company was overseeing a project for Verizon Wireless that resulted in a building being completed in just one month.
In addition to fulfilling his responsibilities as the corporate services vice president, Mr. Onagan was the director of global occupier services at Cushman & Wakefield from 2015 to 2016. During this time, his leadership skills were further recognized when he became the director of real estate at the National Able Network in 2015, remaining with the company until 2019. His work with both companies allowed him to gain valuable insight into the real estate and development sectors, which has served him well in his current role.
Mr. Onagan's academic background includes a Bachelor of Architecture and a master's degree in advanced interior design from the University of Illinois Chicago, both obtained in 1992. He holds a LEED AP ID+C certification from the Chicago Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council and an Illinois managing real estate broker credential from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. His commitment to sustainable design is evident through his involvement with the U.S. Green Building Council and as an associate member of The American Institute of Architects.
Throughout his career, Mr. Onagan has been actively involved in civic organizations, serving as an advisory board member for Pangeam and the National Able Network. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to architecture and design, including a Special Appreciation Award from Verizon Wireless in 2008 and two consecutive Interiors Awards from Interiors Magazine, granted in 1996 and 1997. The Chicago chapter of the American Institute of Architects recognized Mr. Onagan with The Chicago Award in Architecture in 1991 and an additional award in 1996. He is also proud of having been featured in Blueprint Magazine.
Mr. Onagan has shared his industry expertise in several capacities. In 2009, he appeared on an internet television show as a guest speaker on sustainable design in the workplace. As a guest lecturer for a local chapter of the Association of Legal Administrators, he delivered a presentation about workplace strategies in 2006 and a presentation about best practices for law firms in 2005. From 2015 to 2020, he served as a guest judge for the Interprofessional Project Program at the Illinois Institute of Technology.
Working for the Salvation Army has significantly altered Mr. Onagan's perspective. Whereas he once designed award-winning buildings for Fortune 500 companies, he now develops structures that improve the lives of underserved individuals, focusing on function and safety over aesthetics. One of his first projects with the Salvation Army involved a soup kitchen in Detroit called the Bread & Bed Club, which serves 360 people each day. More recently, he worked on a low-income tax credit project in Madison, a $30 million development that provides affordable housing for up to 200 individuals. Both endeavors reflect the positive impact Mr. Onagan is making through his work with the Salvation Army, which he finds very rewarding.
Mr. Onagan attributes his success to his faith. He faced many challenges in his early career and was often passed over for promotions. He struggled through economic recessions, at one point working on a project for Enron when the company suddenly collapsed. His faith sustained him through these difficulties, and when he transitioned to the real estate industry, he leveraged his knowledge of architecture to excel in his role and advance his career. Looking toward the future, Mr. Onagan remains committed to making meaningful contributions through his work.
