His postgraduate training included an internal medicine residency at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center (now Mount Sinai Morningside) completed in 1991, an American Cancer Society fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, and a radiation oncology residency at the same university completed in 1995.

Born and raised in San Juan, Dr. Diaz attributes much of his success to the support he received throughout his career. He remains grateful to Columbia University for providing him with essential education and tools propelling his career forward. This gratitude fuels his motivation to give back to others through work and community involvement.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Diaz enjoys hiking and reading books. He is a father to four sons and is deeply committed to his family and professional endeavors. Looking ahead, he is keen on exploring technical advancements in BNCT with aspirations to implement these innovations clinically. He aims to expand his radiation oncology department to better serve the Phoenix community while strengthening collaborations between the Cancer Institute and Barrows Neurological Institute to enhance patient care significantly.
