NASHVILLE, TN, April 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Helen J. Boerman has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Boerman, a board-certified optometric physician, has dedicated over two decades to the field of eye care, with a particular focus on ocular surface disease and dry eye treatment. As the owner, consultative optometrist and dry eye disease specialist at Brentwood Eye Care in Nashville, Tennessee, since 2015, Dr. Boerman has been instrumental in addressing the significant need for specialized dry eye care in her community. Her commitment to this underserved population is driven by her personal experiences with similar issues, which have fueled her passion for providing specialized care and establishing one of the few dry eye tertiary care centers in middle Tennessee.
Concurrently, Dr. Boerman has served as an adjunct instructor at the Indiana University School of Optometry in Bloomington, Indiana, since 2003. Prior to her current role, she served as a consultative optometrist and dry eye disease specialist at Cool Springs Eye Care and Donelson Eye Care in Nashville from 2013 to 2015. Her professional career began at the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville, where she held multiple roles between 2003 and 2013, including clinical operations manager, residency and fellowship supervisor, co-management director, and senior consultative optometric physician. During this time, she also contributed as a course instructor at the institute.
Dr. Boerman's academic journey laid a strong foundation for her professional achievements. She earned a Doctor of Optometry from the SUNY College of Optometry in New York City in 2003 after completing a Bachelor of Science in animal physiology and neuroscience, with a minor in psychology, from the University of California San Diego in 1999. Her education was further enriched by clinical rotations and externships at the University Eye Center of the SUNY College of Optometry between 2001 and 2003, as well as a residency in refractive and ocular surgery management accredited by Indiana University School of Optometry in 2004. Dr. Boerman also completed board certification in 2013 and is a diplomate of the American Board of Optometry, as well as a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry.
Dr. Boerman's dedication to excellence is reflected in her numerous awards. She was awarded a letter of appreciation from CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services) in 2019 for producing results in achieving the aims of TCPI (Transforming Clinical Practice Initiative), which include high-quality, high value care. She was also selected as the top eye doctor in the Best of Brentwood awards in both 2016 and 2017. In years prior, Dr. Boerman earned a fellowship to the American Academy of Optometry in 2006 and was honored with several accolades during her academic years, including the Dr. Louis Hermann Memorial Award for Outstanding Compassion in Patient Care and the Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence in 2003. Dr. Boerman's contributions to the field extend beyond clinical practice, as she has co-authored several publications on refractive surgery and has been a notable speaker in her field, particularly in her area of expertise, advanced dry eye management.
Driven to remain aware of developments in eye care, Dr. Boerman is a member of numerous organizations. Of these, she is affiliated with Vision Source, a premier network of independent optometrists, as well as the American Board of Optometry, the American Academy of Optometry, the Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and their local chapter, the Middle Tennessee Optometric Society. Earlier, she was a member of the Optometric Cornea, Cataract and Refractive Society.
In addition to her professional commitments, Dr. Boerman is actively involved with her local church and values spending quality time with her family. She is married to her husband, Christopher, who also works in the practice, and is a devoted mother to three children. Dr. Boerman aims to continue advancing dry eye treatment protocols while nurturing her children's growth. Dr. Boerman attributes much of her success to her faith, believing that fulfilling her God-given purpose brings personal satisfaction through serving others. Her legacy is not only defined by her professional accomplishments but also by the strong family foundation she has built alongside her husband, ensuring their children flourish and discover their own purposes in life.
