FAIRPORT, NY, April 03, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Barry Childs has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Childs is the chair and founder of Africa Bridge, an organization dedicated to empowering communities in Tanzania through innovative and sustainable development practices. Since 2000, he has been at the forefront of raising funds and seeking strategic partnerships to implement Africa Bridge's programs. His efforts are focused on creating self-sustaining cooperatives that prioritize social issues, particularly those affecting children, and ensuring that women play a significant role in these initiatives. He is also publishing a book to further raise awareness and support for Africa Bridge.
Before establishing Africa Bridge, Mr. Childs served as director of learning at Abbott Laboratories from 1985 to 2000. During his tenure, he was instrumental in implementing leadership practices globally and introducing total quality management to Abbott Diagnostics worldwide. His work emphasized the importance of customer-determined quality, a philosophy that has influenced his approach to community development with Africa Bridge.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Childs was a multifunctional executive at Exxon Mobil Corp. in the United Kingdom. He initially worked in marketing before transitioning to roles in sales, operations and human resources. His final position at Exxon involved leadership development, which laid the groundwork for his future endeavors in organizational growth and innovation.
Providing a strong foundation for Mr. Childs's career in leadership and management was his educational background, inclusive of a bachelor's degree from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa, which he earned in 1967. The influence of his father, an agriculturist dedicated to improving farming practices, also played a significant role in shaping his commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment.
In addition to his professional achievements, Mr. Childs has been actively involved in civic organizations such as Rotary International and has served as a board member of the Retired Professionals Society. In recognition of his contributions to social entrepreneurship, he was awarded the Purpose Prize by AARP in 2010. He is also the author of "And the Children Shall Lead Us," published by Breakthrough Books in 2024.
Looking ahead, Mr. Childs is currently focused on expanding Africa Bridge's impact by partnering with other organizations to transform the lives of families living near wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. This initiative aims to educate communities about the long-term benefits of wildlife conservation while addressing human-wildlife conflict resolution strategies.
