Mr. Brown is a dedicated physical education teacher and coach. Since 2024, he currently has taught at Saugerties High School, where he also serves as the head girls wrestling coach. Prior to accepting this appointment, Mr. Brown was on the faculty at Kingston High School where he played a pivotal role in shaping the athletic careers of numerous students from 1999 to 2023.
Mr. Brown's professional advancement was shaped by his distinguished service in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served at the rank of second lieutenant and as the armor platoon leader before retiring as a major after 21 years. During his military tenure, he excelled in wrestling, winning the United States Army Europe Championship in both freestyle and Greco-Roman styles. Mr. Brown's achievements led to his selection for the all-army wrestling team, where he competed in the world championships and qualified for two Olympic trials, becoming an alternate for the Barcelona Olympics in the 163-pound weight class.
A four-time national qualifier and two-time NCAA Wrestling All-American, Mr. Brown's contributions to wrestling have been recognized with inductions into the High School Athletic Hall of Fame at both Kingston High School and Morgan State University. He is humbled to have guided many athletes to success, and Mr. Brown has witnessed several of his students achieve state-level recognition in wrestling and track and field and join the military as commissioned officers.
Mr. Brown's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science in physical education teaching and coaching from Morgan State University, which he earned in 1986. He subsequently pursued graduate studies and completed a Master of Science in humanistic multicultural education from SUNY New Paltz in 2010. Additionally, Mr. Brown completed coursework at the Armor Officer Basic School, Nuclear Biological Chemical Warfare School and Armor Officer Advance School.
In addition to his professional commitments, Mr. Brown actively seeks opportunities for civic engagement, and he volunteers with wrestling clubs to foster young talent and nurture future generations of athletes. Outside of his career, he enjoys spending time with his two daughters and engaging in activities such as hunting, fishing and riding motorcycles. He aspires to continue coaching with the objective of mentoring one young athlete to become the first female state champion at the New York state wrestling championship. Beyond this immediate goal, Mr. Brown aims to be a positive influence on those around him, setting an example for his family, friends and community.
