Boasting 12 years of experience in engineering and construction management, Mr. Sweeney currently holds the title of urban transformation leader at Accenture, where he has been employed since 2022. In this role, he supports the company's Intelligent Mobility program, which aims to develop multimodal applications and digital solutions across transportation. He is also responsible for managing technology implementation, developing strategy and acting as a professional liaison for the organization as a transport expert.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Sweeney held several titles at McDonough Bolyard Peck, serving as a lead engineer from 2018 to 2022 and a deputy project director from 2016 to 2021. He joined the company in 2016 as an engineer and remained in that position until 2018. Mr. Sweeney began his career at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority, working as an engineer I from 2014 to 2016 and as a right-of-way engineer and asset assistant in 2013.

Mr. Sweeney received a Master of Business Administration from Georgetown University in 2021 and a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Penn State in 2014. While pursuing his graduate degree, he had the opportunity to serve as an MBA consultant, advising the International Finance Corporation on their Smart Cities initiative. He also completed a capstone project focused on smart-city technology investments in emerging markets. A unique and valuable experience, this project allowed Mr. Sweeney to interact with diverse organizations, including Smart Uganda, as he explored how technology can aid developing countries.

Mr. Sweeney has complemented his formal education by completing courses on LinkedIn, including Strategic Planning and Urban Design Foundations and Project Management Foundations: Requirements. He holds an engineer-in-training designation from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying and a certification from the Construction Management Association of America. Mr. Sweeney is also a licensed scuba diver.

Mr. Sweeney is actively involved with industry-related organizations, including the Construction Management Association of America, the Intelligent Transportation Society of America and the American Association of Cost Engineering (AACE). His commitment to personal development is evident through his past membership with the Challenger Toastmasters from 2016 to 2019.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Sweeney is deeply committed to civic engagement and donates his time as a volunteer for his local church and the 11th Street Bridge Project. He also participates in marine conservation clean-up drives. Mr. Sweeney's passion for environmental sustainability aligns with his professional goals of improving urban infrastructure and quality of life.

While he has achieved much during his career, Mr. Sweeney is especially proud of his fellowship with the World Economic Forum (WEF), where he co-authored and published an article in 2024. He dedicated significant time and effort to this project, writing, editing and speaking at various events throughout the year. Mr. Sweeney has a previous publication with the WEF that focused on collaborative efforts and governance in Vancouver, British Columbia. This project, which Mr. Sweeney found very rewarding, involved working with the city's chief financial officer, lead engineer and other key individuals.

In addition to his involvement with the WEF, Mr. Sweeney has had several high-profile speaking engagements. For example, in 2023, he was the keynote speaker at the AACE Northeast Symposium. He has also delivered presentations at major industry events such as the Smart City Expo World Congress, which is held annually in Barcelona. Placing second in the 2024 Accenture Oracle Mastermind Innovation contest was another important accomplishment for Mr. Sweeney.

Mr. Sweeney attributes his success to several key factors, including his wife's unwavering support. Despite being busy with her own career, she always makes time to encourage her husband and celebrate his accomplishments. Another important woman in Mr. Sweeney's life is his mother. Although his family ran a construction and manufacturing business, it was his mother's small, woman-owned construction company that ignited his interest in the field. Mr. Sweeney also acknowledges the individuals he has encountered through his work on a number of infrastructure, transportation and community improvement projects. He is inspired by those who have created and implemented transformative solutions benefitting small communities and large regions alike.
