Dr. Kaufman had a long, impactful tenure at Quest Diagnostics, having joined the company's predecessor, MetPath, in 1992 and serving in a wide variety of leadership roles over the ensuing 32 years.

NEEDHAM, MA, April 08, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Harvey W. Kaufman, MD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

An expert in laboratory medicine, Dr. Kaufman has served as a clinical scientist in the Computational Health Informatics Program at Boston Children's Hospital and an instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School since 2024. After his medical residency, he worked as an associate pathologist at Framingham Union Hospital in Framingham, Massachusetts and with the adjacent Framingham Heart Study. There, he led a study that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association and was covered by national media outlets, including CNN, the attention it garnered portending the future.

After completing his residency, Dr. Kaufman joined a group of pathologists in and around Boston led by Dr. Paul Raslavicus, who later became the president of the College of American Pathologists. Subsequently, Dr. Kaufman had a long, impactful tenure at Quest Diagnostics, having joined the company's predecessor, MetPath, in 1992 as the regional medical director of New England. He remained at Quest Diagnostics until June 2024, serving in a wide variety of leadership roles over the ensuing 32 years. In fact, Dr. Kaufman was the very first Quest scientist to hold the titles of corporate clinical pathologist, corporate medical quality leader, Six Sigma quality leader, vice president of clinical science, and vice president and chief laboratory officer of the new Quest Diagnostics. He was also the first medical director of several distinct initiatives, including Quest Diagnostics Health Trends®, health and wellness services, general health and wellness, sports and human performance, hospital services, business development, and international and clinical trials. Finally, Dr. Kaufman was the company's first senior medical director, first senior medical director of venture and medical informatics, and first senior medical director of medical affairs.

In these roles, Dr. Kaufman influenced numerous initiatives, which included identifying new processes and structures and participating in the due diligence of many acquisitions. For example, he introduced a simplified format for policies and procedures, assisted in identifying and introducing laboratory tests, and helped establish a new Quest Diagnostics laboratory in India. He also served on and led numerous committees and teams, including the Quest Diagnostics Foundation and Quest for Health Equity. He served as the primary medical liaison for some of the Quest Diagnostics business investments and in partnerships that included Hackensack Meridian Health of New Jersey. These efforts were recognized with multiple Quest Diagnostics Spotlight Awards.

Throughout his tenure at Quest Diagnostics, Dr. Kaufman authored more than 100 publications, participated in hundreds of media interviews and spoke on many panels. He conducted numerous studies in collaboration with academic and governmental entities, including the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the National Cancer Institute. More than a dozen of these studies involved collaboration with the CDC Division of Viral Hepatitis, while several others influenced national clinical practice guidelines and recommendations.

Dr. Kaufman led Quest Diagnostics Health Trends, a series of data-supported reports, from its inception until 2024. This initiative won many awards, including multiple Quest Diagnostics top publication awards and five Big Apple Awards from the New York City Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America, marking a significant professional achievement. Quest Diagnostics Health Trends was featured in dozens of press releases and numerous interviews held by leading national media outlets in print, radio, television, and online. National Public Radio's "Tech Nation" podcast featured an especially comprehensive interview with Dr. Kaufman in which he discussed the Quest Diagnostics response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to these accomplishments, Dr. Kaufman has served on the boards or committees of professional organizations, healthcare organizations, charitable organizations and community organizations, reflecting his commitment to making a positive impact. Notable among these efforts is his decades-long involvement with and support for the National Kidney Foundation.

Dr. Kaufman's academic journey laid a strong foundation for his professional success. He simultaneously earned a bachelor's and master's degree in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He earned a Doctor of Medicine from the Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine at Boston University and completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He is board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and chemical pathology. Further enhancing his expertise, Dr. Kaufman obtained a Master of Business Administration in marketing from the New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business, where he was named a Stern scholar.

One of Dr. Kaufman's most notable achievements was receiving the Best of the Best Award for Healthcare Innovation from the Alliance for Quality Healthcare in 2004. The award was granted in recognition of his work in revolutionizing the diagnosis of chronic kidney disease nationally. In March of 2024, he was named the Laboratory Innovator of the Month by the Medical Laboratory Observer.

Dr. Kaufman attributes his success to his strong work ethic, his commitment to quality and innovation, and his experience collaborating with individuals from diverse backgrounds. He is currently providing a bi-weekly series at Boston Children's Hospital titled "Clinical Medicine Essentials for Researchers." Additionally, he is authoring a book that ties his personal journey to stories concerning the value of clinical laboratory testing.
