Mr. Grubbs has established a distinguished career in the legal and business sectors, currently serving as the general counsel and corporate secretary at JobsOhio in Columbus. Since 2013, has been responsible for board governance, compliance and corporate legal matters for JobsOhio and its nonprofit affiliate companies. In this role he oversees legal work related to retail operations, including setting up points of sale, inventory control, logistics and statutory compliance. His responsibilities extend to administering grants, loans and other incentive programs while managing contractual relationships with regional nonprofit partners involved in economic development. Additionally, Mr. Grubbs plays a crucial role in human resource issues, board and corporate governance, and advises all functional groups within the organization. He is currently NACD Directorship Certified®, the nation's premier certification for board directors from the National Association of Corporate Directors.

Before joining JobsOhio, Mr. Grubbs held several significant positions in public service and private practice. In 2011, he was appointed chief legal counsel at the Ohio Department of Commerce, where he contributed to the sale of the state's liquor control to JobsOhio. He later served as an assistant director at the Ohio Department of Commerce and the Ohio Development Services Agency between 2012 and 2013.

In private practice, Mr. Grubbs was a partner at Buckley King LPA from 2003 to 2011, where he served on the firm's commercial litigation group and counseled clients in matters of business and commercial law, litigation, intellectual property, trade secret, and other areas of the law. Before this role, Mr. Grubbs was a partner at Shayne & Greenwald Company LPA, dating back to 1990, where he spent over a decade focusing on transactional law and soft intellectual property matters, such as copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets.

During his tenure in private practice, Mr. Grubbs simultaneously became politically active in local government. From 2004 to 2011, he served as a city councilman and mayor of Powell, Ohio. During his time as mayor between 2006 and 2007, Powell was recognized as the fastest-growing city in the Midwest. Mr. Grubbs's efforts focused on economic development, planning and zoning initiatives that contributed to the city's growth.

Mr. Grubbs began his legal career as a judicial law clerk for Justice Robert E. Holmes at the Supreme Court of Ohio from 1987 to 1990. This foundational experience gave him valuable insights into the judiciary system and honed his legal acumen.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Grubbs achieved a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Ohio Northern University in 1983 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from The Ohio State University in 1986. Mr. Grubbs has held certification as a specialist in e-discovery from the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Grubbs is actively involved in civic organizations. He serves on the board of Opera Columbus and has volunteered with The American National Red Cross as a chapter board member and served as the corporate secretary for the Ohio Academy of Science for over 15 years. Looking ahead, Mr. Grubbs aims to focus on succession planning and team development at JobsOhio, while expanding his presence on various boards. He advises those entering his field to remain curious and courageous as they navigate their careers.
