JACKSONVILLE, FL, April 08, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Perry E. Fewell has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Fewell has established himself as a prominent figure in the National Football League (NFL), currently serving as the senior vice president of officiating. Since assuming this role in 2020, he has been responsible for training, developing and recruiting officials and educating them on the rules of the game and its execution. He has been instrumental in implementing a system of checks and balances to ensure fairness and equity in officiating, striving for consistency among officials.
Mr. Fewell is proud of his efforts to advance innovation through the Art McNally GameDay Central technology initiative, which focuses on replay assistance and reviews. He also produces weekly videos discussing sportsmanship and gamesmanship in an effort to educate clubs, coaches, general managers and players on game rules. In February 2023, Mr. Fewell was recognized by the Fritz Pollard Alliance Foundation with the Johnnie Cochran Jr. Salute to Excellence Award for exceptional performance by an individual in a sports organization.
Before his current position, Mr. Fewell was the defensive backs coach for the Carolina Panthers from 2019 to 2020. During this time, he stepped up as interim head coach for four games following the release of the head coach. Although he did not secure any wins during this period, coaching near his hometown of Gastonia, North Carolina, was a significant personal achievement. Prior to his tenure with the Panthers, he served as the defensive backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2017 to 2018.
Mr. Fewell's career highlights include his role as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants from 2010 to 2015. His most memorable moment came in 2011 when he helped lead the team to victory in Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots. This achievement remains a source of pride for him, symbolizing his success in Indianapolis, where he often met with John Mara, owner of the Giants.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Fewell held various coaching positions within the NFL and collegiate football. He was interim head coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2009 after serving as their defensive coordinator for the preceding three years. His experience also includes roles with the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Rams (now Los Angeles Rams), Jacksonville Jaguars and several universities, including Vanderbilt University, Kent State University and the U.S. Military Academy.
Mr. Fewell's educational background laid a strong foundation for his career in football. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and management from Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1984 after receiving a scholarship to play college football there. He also completed coursework toward a master's degree at The University of North Carolina. Overall, he attributes much of his success to his wife, along with his faith and family, who have provided unwavering support throughout his journey.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Fewell is actively involved in civic organizations, supporting charities for children and advocating for youth football. Additionally, he is a donor and volunteer with various other charities, including the American Cancer Association.
In his personal life, Mr. Fewell is dedicated to fostering better sportsmanship among young athletes and their parents. He aims to address what he perceives as a missing element in education by helping develop sportsmanship models through various organizations. With two sons who are both college graduates, he continues to inspire future generations both on and off the field.
