In preparation for her future, Dr. Gitelson received a Bachelor of Arts in history from Barnard College, followed by a Master of International Affairs and a Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University.

As an accomplished author, Dr. Gitelson penned "Giving Is Not Just For The Very Rich: A How-to Guide for Giving and Philanthropy," which was featured in Reader's Magnet Digest's Best Books of 2024. Her editorial work includes "Israel in the Third World." She has also contributed to various professional journals.
