Further solidifying his reputation in the industry is his work at Caterpillar Inc., where he consults in global operational technologies architecture and risk reduction.
Before rising to the position of senior information security officer at Maricopa Community Colleges, Mr. Bastian served as the vice chancellor and interim chief information security officer from 2023 to 2024. During his time in that role, his leadership and strategic vision were instrumental in enhancing the institution's cybersecurity framework. Prior to stepping into that role, Mr. Bastian held the position of information security officer senior at the same institution from 2020 to 2023, where he played a pivotal role in strengthening their information security protocols.
Between 2015 and 2020, Mr. Bastian made significant contributions as a senior security architect at American Airlines. There, he was responsible for designing robust security architectures that safeguarded critical data and systems. Leading up to his time at American Airlines, he worked as an information security engineer at Wells Fargo Bank in 2015, implementing advanced security measures to protect sensitive financial information, and served as the Americas security administrator at Isola Group, where he managed comprehensive security operations across multiple regions, from 2013 to 2015.
As a result of his work, Mr. Bastian is an active member of several industry-related organizations, including InfraGard as the national transportation sector chief, the North Texas Crimes Commission, the North Texas Cybercrime Committee and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association. Educationally, he holds several degrees and certifications that were foundational to his career success. Complementing a Bachelor of Science in information technology management from Western International University, obtained in 2006, Mr. Bastian earned a Master of Professional Studies in Homeland Security with a focus on information security and forensics from Pennsylvania State University, which he obtained in 2017.
Mr. Bastian's most significant achievement is that he supported himself while pursuing his master's degree and graduating with a nearly perfect grade point average. Most notably, he earned a place in the Order of the Sword & Shield National Academic and Professional Honor Society, recognized by Omicron Sigma Sigma, for his achievements and was inducted into the prestigious society in 2020. While working toward his master's, he also completed a certification in information systems cyber security in 2015 from the university as well as one in critical infrastructure security and resilience through the Emergency Management Institute in 2016. Additionally, he is certified as an information systems cybersecurity professional as well as a firefighter via the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
In reflecting on his accomplishments, Mr. Bastian attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his family and colleagues who have stood by him throughout his journey. This support has been instrumental in achieving both personal and professional milestones that define his distinguished career today. Beyond his professional life, Mr. Bastian is actively engaged in his community through volunteerism. Since 2020, he has been actively involved with various organizations, including the North Texas Crime Commission, Susan G. Komen North Texas and Runners Refuge/Peach Tree Recovery as a fundraising volunteer, among others.
Moreover, Mr. Bastian served as a Stephens Minister at his home church and has contributed his time to Habitat for Humanity as a builder since 2010. As a family man, he enjoys spending time with his two adult children, five forever children, and grandchildren, while riding motorcycles is one of his cherished pastimes. Looking ahead, Mr. Bastian aims to expand his limited liability corporation by developing security products tailored for local and public communities, enhancing their ability to serve these groups more effectively.
