He received recognition as the Gwilym S. Lodwick, MD, and Maria Antonia Lodwick Distinguished Professor of Radiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

COLUMBIA, MO, April 09, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert J. Churchill, MD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Dr. Churchill, a distinguished radiology professional with expertise in whole-body CT scanning, has dedicated 35 years to his profession. His career is marked by significant contributions, beginning as a physician at Loyola University and Loyola University Medical Center between 1976 and 1987. Dr. Churchill then pivoted to the University of Missouri Health Care, where he served as a physician from 1987 to 2012.

Beyond his clinical work, Dr. Churchill enjoyed a distinguished academic tenure at the University of Missouri-Columbia. In 1987, he began serving as a professor and chair of radiology. He also held the title of vice dean of the school of medicine from 1995 to 1998 and interim dean from 1998 to 2000. Moreover, he was the interim vice chancellor and CEO of the Health Sciences Center between 1998 and 2000 and the Hugh E. and Sarah D. Stephenson dean of the school of medicine from 2008 to 2012. During his tenure, Dr. Churchill addressed long-standing diversity issues by establishing the position of senior associate dean for diversity and inclusion, a pioneering role on campus.

Beyond his primary work, Dr. Churchill founded the Missouri Radiology Imaging Center. He also served as a fellow and adviser for GE.

Dr. Churchill's academic journey began with a bachelor's degree in biology, summa cum laude, from Loras College in 1968. He then acquired a Doctor of Medicine from Loyola University Chicago in 1972. Additional educational pursuits to Dr. Churchill's credit include an internship in internal medicine at the Univesity of Indiana, followed by a residency in diagnostic radiology and a fellowship at Loyola University.

Besides his work-related accomplishments, Dr. Churchill's civic engagement as a member of organizations such as Rotary Club International, Heart of Missouri United Way, and the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He has held leadership roles with several community organizations, including past board president positions with the Boys and Girls Club of Columbia, Voluntary Action Center of Columbia and the Central Missouri Humane Society and former advisory roles with institutions like the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Missouri.

Dr. Churchill's expertise and success in radiology earned him recognition as the Gwilym S. Lodwick, MD, and Maria Antonia Lodwick Distinguished Professor of Radiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine. He also received the University of Missouri Chancellor's Retiree of the Year Award. In light of his civic contributions, Dr. Churchill received a Boys and Girls Club Board Member of the Year award.

Attributing much of his success to growing up in the lower class, Dr. Churchill learned humility, empathy and community responsibility. In retirement, he plans to continue giving back through home visits to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
