As the owner and Director of WOCN Consulting Care Services LLC, she has established herself as a leader. Through her work with WOCN Consulting, she reviews and summarizes medical records for attorneys, conducts medical research, meets and counsels victims of medical malpractice, and screens cases for merit. Since 2004, she has also served as an independent wound ostomy continence consultant and a legal nurse consultant, allowing her to leverage her extensive knowledge and experience to provide specialized care and advice. As a consultant, Ms. Grcich assesses, examines, counsels and determines a care plan for preventing and healing all types of wounds.
In addition to her consulting work, Ms. Grcich has been an adjunct nursing instructor at Ivy Tech Community College since 2011, where she shares her expertise with aspiring nurses. Her commitment to education is further demonstrated by her long-standing role as director of inpatient wound, ostomy, continence care and outpatient ostomy clinic at Northwest Health Porter, a position she has held since 1983. At Northwest, she consults for patients with wounds, ostomy and continence needs in various units, including the emergency, critical care, medical-surgical inpatient rehabilitation, maternal-child, and pediatric units. Her tenure as a staff nurse at Porter Hospital from 1983 to 2023 and her previous role as a nursing supervisor at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital from 2000 to 2005 highlights her dedication to patient care and leadership in the healthcare sector.
Ms. Grcich's contributions to the field have been recognized through numerous awards, including the Employee of the Year award from Community Health Systems (NWHealth Porter Hospital), and the State of Indiana (5 Million Lives Campaign) for her outstanding work in reducing pressure injuries by over 50% through the program she developed. She also received national recognition at the WOCN Society Conference, and the Nursing Management Congress, for her poster presentation on pressure injury reduction, and was honored with two Diamond Awards for Outstanding Patient Services by NWHealth Porter Hospital in 2018. Additionally, Ms. Grcich received the Nurse of the Year Award nomination from Nursing Spectrum in 2004 and the Nursing Daisy Award nomination in 2021.
Her academic achievements include a Master of Science Nursing (MSN), in nursing education from Walden University in 2011 and a Bachelor of Science in nursing from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2004. These educational accomplishments have been instrumental in her success, providing a strong foundation for her clinical practice and education roles. Ms. Grcich holds certifications as a board-certified legal nurse consultant and a certified wound ostomy continence nurse, further underscoring her expertise.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ms. Grcich is actively involved in civic organizations such as the American Cancer Society and serves as a volunteer preceptor for the Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurses Society. Her commitment to community service is evident through her participation in hospice center donations and annual walks and her support for elementary education and children's reading programs.
In her personal life, Ms. Grcich enjoys beekeeping, gardening with a particular fondness for daylilies and offering her cabin on Tippecanoe River, as an Airbnb. She is devoted to her two sons, and four grandchildren and looks forward to teaching the younger generation about the importance of support groups within the ostomy community. Her involvement with the United Ostomy Associations of America Inc. reflects her dedication to expanding this community and restarting support groups to aid patients in navigating their challenges through education and support.
