Peter Asmus has established himself as a prominent figure in the field of sustainable energy. His career began, however, as an investigative reporter focusing on political issues in Sacramento, California. He wrote extensively on the influence of money in politics, contributing to various newspapers including the Los Angeles Times. By the mid-1980s, Mr. Asmus shifted his focus to environmental and energy issues, which became central themes of his career. He worked for the national energy trade press and served as assistant editor of "California Policy Choices," an annual policy book series funded by the Hewlett Foundation at the University of Southern California's School of Public Administration.

Mr. Asmus then transitioned from journalism to consulting, taking roles with organizations such as the Independent Energy Producers and the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies. His expertise in emerging energy trends led him to work for Pike Research, which later became Navigant Research and eventually Guidehouse Insights. For a decade, he served as a research director, focusing on new revoluntionary concepts such as microgrids and virtual power plants. His work earned him a global reputation, consulting for major companies such as ABB, GE, Siemens and Schneider Electric. He also advised public sector clients such as the World Bank and federal Department of Energy.

Currently, Mr. Asmus is the executive director of Alaska Microgrid Group Inc., a small consulting non-profit exporting solutions from Alaska to emerging markets. He also serves as a senior advisor for Clarum Advisors LLC, which is focused on investments in leading companies pursuing sustainable business practices, and the University of Alaska-Fairbanks, focusing on microgrid strategy and thought leadership. Additionally, he is president and owner of Pathfinder Communications, which he has led since 1999. His clients at Pathfinder have included the California Energy Commission, American Wind Energy Association and the AHC Group.

Mr. Asmus is an accomplished author with several books to his name. His books include "Introduction to Energy in California," "Reaping the Wind: How Mechanical Wizards, Visionaries and Profiteers Helped Shape Our Energy Future," "Reinventing Electric Utilities: Competition, Citizen Action and Clean Power" and "In Search of Environmental Excellence." In 2026, he will publish his fifth book tentatively entitled "Alaska's Energy Innovators." These books reflect his deep understanding of energy issues and his ability to communicate solutions to vexing environmental challenges effectively.

Mr. Asmus holds a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a minor in communication education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, graduating in 1980. His education laid the foundation for his ability to translate complex topics into engaging narratives for the general public. This skill has been instrumental in his success across various roles throughout his career.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Asmus has been actively involved in civic organizations. He has served on the boards of the Marin Conservation League, Stinson Beach Village Association, Stinson Beach Historical Society, and Stinson Beach Community Center. He has also volunteered as a DJ for a community radio station for over two decades and organized numerous community, activist and musical events.

Outside of his career, Mr. Asmus is motivated by values that emphasize environmental and societal impact. As he approaches retirement, he is eager to embrace new challenges and continue learning.

Mr. Asmus plans to dedicate more time to personal interests such as publishing a book of his poetry and performing additional recordings of his original music. He aims to experiment with new forms of media, reflecting his desire to explore creative avenues alongside his established career as a global thought leader on cutting edge energy topics.
