Mr. Sharratta has built a distinguished career in law enforcement, currently serving as a lieutenant in the criminal investigations unit of the City of Greer Police Department in South Carolina. Since assuming this role in 2025, he has managed two advocates, overseen case file management and supervised several investigators and a Project Safe Neighborhoods investigator. His responsibilities also include general management of the unit, responding to reports, ensuring cases reach a conclusion and overseeing recruit training through the field training program and review board. Prior to his current position, Mr. Sharratta served as a sergeant with the City of Greer Police Department from 2011 to 2025. During this tenure, he managed many departmental trainings and taught courses on critical law enforcement topics, including the use of force and officer safety.
Before joining the Greer Police Department, Mr. Sharratta worked as a police officer with the High Springs Police Department from 2003 to 2004 and the Gainesville Police Department for the preceding year. His career in law enforcement began with the Plains Township Police Department as an officer from 1997 to 2002. Additionally, he has experience outside law enforcement as a finance manager and salesperson with Asbury Automotive Group.
Mr. Sharratta's educational background has been instrumental in his professional success. He earned a master's degree in criminal justice and law enforcement administration from Penn State World Campus in 2025, where his capstone research examined why officers intervene or not in use-of-force incidents through Social Learning Theory and Rational Choice/Deterrence Theory. Through his research, he aimed to enhance training and intervention practices in policing. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in management from the University of Phoenix in 2013.
Mr. Sharratta's academic achievements are complemented by several certifications. He is a Certified Search & Seizure Instructor from Blue to Gold, a certified Firearm Instructor in South Carolina and holds a Class 1 and Basic Instructor Development certification.
Throughout his career, Mr. Sharratta has been recognized for his contributions and achievements. He was named the Public Safety Officer of the Year by the Greater Greer Chamber of Commerce in 2018 and received the Trilogy Award from FBI-LEEDA that same year. Furthermore, his induction into the Plains Sports Hall of Fame for the life-saving award in 1997, along with his nomination for The Ronald L. Filippelli and Avis L. Kunz Award at Penn State World Campus.
Overall, Mr. Sharratta credits his success to his father, a seasoned law enforcement professional with over 20 years of experience, who played a pivotal role in shaping his expectations. With this foundation, Mr. Sharratta entered the field with a unique perspective and he leveraged these advantages to excel. His strategic, career-focused approach — planning in five-year increments — has also been instrumental in driving his achievements.
Outside his professional duties, Mr. Sharratta is actively involved in civic-minded organizations and community initiatives. He has participated in gift-giving programs benefiting over 250 children through the annual Cops for Tots Christmas program and served as head coach for fundraising events like the Upstate of South Carolina Softball Tournament.
Mr. Sharratta enjoys solving puzzles during his free time. Anticipating his professional future, he plans to transition into teaching at a local community college or police training academy. He is also considering working with organizations such as FBI-LEEDA or Blue to Gold after retiring from active duty. Additionally, he aims to continue mentoring younger officers, leading policing forward and improving decision-making through training and research.
