NEW YORK, NY, August 24, 2016 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rachel Newman has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A long-time editor based in New York City, Ms. Newman founded and managed a number of successful magazines over the course of her career. She began her work in the magazine world as an accessories editor for Woman's Wear Daily, and soon became an associate editor for McCall's Sportswear and Dress Merchandiser Magazine. Within a year, she was named managing editor of McCall's You-Do-It Home Decorating, having been certified by the New York School of Interior Design. From there, she became managing editor of Ladies' Home Journal Needle and Craft Magazine.
Ms. Newman achieved her first editor-in-chief role with American Home Crafts Magazine in 1972. After five years, she left that position to become the editor-in-chief of Country Living Magazine, a role she held for 20 years. During that time, she also spent four years as the home building and decorating director for Good Housekeeping Magazine. Additionally, she became a founding editor of Country Cooking Magazine, Dream Homes Magazine, Country Kitchens Magazine, Country Living Gardener Magazine, and Healthy Living Magazine.
In 2000, Ms. Newman decided to take a step back from the magazine industry to pursue her passion for art. She now paints landscapes, still life and portraits on commission. Furthermore, Ms. Newman has taken classes at the Grand Central Atelier art school since 2011. She enjoys traveling to Italy approximately once a year to continue her study of plein air painting. Ms. Newman is represented by the Phyllis Lucas Gallery in New York. She also found time to serve on the board of directors of Mothers and Others for a Livable Planet. Her professional affiliations included the American Society of Magazine Editors, the American Society of Interior Designers, National Home Fashions League, and the New York Fashion Group.
Ms. Newman graduated from Pennsylvania State University in 1960. She was named an alumni fellow of the university in 1986 and a distinguished alumna of the university in 1988. Ms. Newman also received the Circle of Excellence Award from the International Furnishings Design Association from 1992, and was inducted into the YMCA Hall of Fame the same year. Her many accomplishments were taken into consideration when she was chosen to be featured in the 34th through 37th editions of Who's Who in Finance and Business, the 44th through 70th editions of Who's Who in America, and the 27th through 43rd editions of Who's Who in the East. Ms. Newman has appeared in several editions of Who's Who of American Women as well.
