EDINBORO, PA, May 22, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jean L. Smith, M.Ed., a retired elementary educator for General McLane School District's Edinboro Elementary School, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for demonstrating dedication, leadership and excellence in elementary education.
Jean L. Smith, M.Ed. had an unprecedented 44 years of professional experience in the education field before her retirement in June 2008. As a third-grade educator at Edinboro Elementary School, she specialized in planning and implementing third-grade core curriculum, worked to achieve the total well-being of each student, and kept the lines of communication between the classroom and student homes open. She is remembered by her peers for her dedication to instilling in students independent work and study habits, responsibility, and problem-solving skills. Her students fondly recall the extra effort she put into setting up her classroom for awesome educational experiences and results - some of her students were published in the Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans.
Ms. Smith notes that she became involved in her profession due to the inspiration she received from her own teachers and is most proud of implementing and integrating a mini-society project into the third-grade curriculum in which the students became real-life entrepreneurs. In 2002-2003, Ms. Smith was awarded the Golden Apple Award and she was listed in the 8th (2003-2004), 9th (2004-2005) and 10th (2005-2006) editions of Who's Who Among American Teachers.
Familial support is the key to Ms. Smith's success. She received her Master of Education from the University of Pittsburgh and is a member of the General McLane Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association.
