Richard R. Barra Honored for Excellence in Transportation Management

    PORTLAND, ME, June 3, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard R. Barra, Director of Fare Collection for The Maine Turnpike Authority, has been recognized by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in all aspects of transportation management.

An employee for The Maine Turnpike Authority for the last 34 years, Mr. Barra is now on his eighth year as the Director of Fare Collection with the Authority. As the Director of Fare Collection, he is in charge of ensuring customer satisfaction with public transport services. His responsibilities include working closely with supervisors and staff, writing policies and procedures, preparing instructional memos and analyzing traffic data for appropriate staffing for 19 facilities, managing scheduling at toll plazas, negotiating contracts, and overseeing Step Two of the Grievance Process. Mr. Barra attributes his success and longevity to his people management skills and institutional knowledge, and to the support he receives from his supervisor and his employees.

Mr. Barra is a member of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association and the Athletic Boosters of Wells High School. He gives generously to Maine Handicapped Skiing.
