/24-7PressRelease/ - CHICO, CA, January 26, 2006 - The swelling popularity of the fantasy fiction genre has fit right in with Tracy Falbe's aspiration to publish fantasy novels. Many long years of writing have culminated in the publication this January in trade paperback of "Union of Renegades" and "The Goddess Queen" that are Books I and II of "The Rys Chronicles."
Back in 1997, Falbe started writing the series, and her love of the craft and desire to bring her characters and adventures to the public prompted her to launch Brave Luck Books a fantasy fiction imprint of her company, Falbe Publishing. "The Rys Chronicles" are available directly from the author at www.braveluck.com as well as Amazon, BarnesandNoble.com and Booksamillion.com. Falbe offers competitive discounts at her website along with a free ebook download of "Union of Renegades" so that interested readers can check out the series at no cost.
Like many people who enjoy the fantasy genre, Falbe started reading it as an adolescent. Her tastes began with Tolkien, then Michael Moorcock and Robert E. Howard among others, and the science fiction of Frank Herbert, although she considers Herbert to be a blend of science fiction and fantasy. Currently she enjoys reading the work of George R. R. Martin.
Falbe always wanted to create a fiction series of her own and, in her mid-twenties, "The Rys Chronicles" started coming together in her mind. What she finds best about writing is making up characters and striving to give them lives that readers will care about knowing.
"I try not to forget that characters need to be more than vehicles to move a plot," Falbe said. "They need to crack jokes. They need to have talents and flaws. They need to have successes and mistakes."
For example, her main human male character in "The Rys Chronicles" is Dreibrand Veta. He is young and ambitious, and a skilled warrior. He has a talent for learning foreign languages quickly, which aids him greatly as he seeks a new fortune in foreign lands, but sometimes his temper will snap and he will act rashly.
As the name of the series implies, Falbe has created her own fantasy race of magical beings called rys. They are mortal but long-lived and possess innate magical powers. Most rys are born with only common magic, but in rare instances, a rys will have an extreme talent for magic that can have many uses both beneficial and dangerous. The main rys character is Shan, who seeks to take the throne from Onja, the cruel Queen of the rys. Shan is driven both by his ambition and the moral need to end the evil reign of his queen. Good at heart and compassionate, Shan is constantly tormented by the reality that he must use his power to kill and incite rebellion in order to achieve the good goal of defeating a wicked tyrant.
Falbe believes that fantasy readers who like wars for a throne, magical battles, duels, palace intrigue, backwoods skirmishes, and a touch love should consider reading "The Rys Chronicles."
Books I and II "Union of Renegades" (ISBN 0-9762235-2-X) and "The Goddess Queen" (ISBN 0-9762235-3-8) are available now. Cover art for the novels was developed and created by Darryl Petrucci. For more information, visit www.braveluck.com.
