LARCHMONT, NY, July 10, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- On Monday, July 13th at 6:00 pm, Clarke Auction, Westchester's Premier Auction Gallery, will sell 400 lots fresh from Manhattan, Larchmont, New Rochelle, and Scarsdale estates.
Signed Antique and Margolis Furniture
Highlights include a signed Lamb of Manchester Aesthetic Movement etagere; a dining suite of highly carved, possibly Horner pieces; American Empire furniture, a selection of Victorian oak tables and bookcases, and an 18th C. English slantfront desk. Of special interest is a collection of Hartford furniture, including a signed Margolis blockfront desk, signed Margolis dining chairs, a pair of Baker fliptop bachelors chests, and other fine pieces apparently unsigned.
Decorative arts includes a single owner collection of KPM and other porcelain painted plaques, collections of Royal Copenhagen, Boehm and Parian figures; possibly Meissen busts, painted Sevres urns, midcentury Rosenthal, Steuben glass; Royal Worcester, Royal Berlin, Royal Copenhagen, Calyx, Bing and Grundahl, and Wedgwood table settings. A New Rochelle estate provided a large collection of Majolica in excellent condition.
Silver includes sterling pieces from Tiffany, Whiting, Gorham, Georg Jensen, and Herman Roth; Judaic Silver Spice Towers, Menorahs, Chanukah Lamps, Book Binding, and Shabbas trays from the Continent, America, and Mexico; signed Danish and German Midcentury and Deco silver; and large vintage silverplate serving pieces.
Carpets to include antique and semi-antique orientals.
Midcentury modern features pieces by Arteluce, Mastercraft, Hans Wegner, a glass and bronze coffee table signed Grobman, a signed bronze console base, Plexiglass upholstered chairs, a pair of possibly Gibbings chests, signed art glass including Kaj Franck, Saporiti dining chairs, Murano lighting, and forty other lots.
Fine art includes three works by Hawaian artist John Young, a pair of vintage Bay of Naples gouaches, a signed Mathurin Moreau bronze, a Gerda Van Der Bosch bronze of a collie, a 19th C. H. Gebhard bronze fox terrier, a watercolor of a bull terrier attibuted to C. Burton Barber, an unsigned neoclassical bronze horse and figure, a Beverly Bogen nude oil, signed Midcentury Modern sculptures, signed oils of nudes, vintage James Bond illustrations, a Henry Jarvis watercolor, a signed oil after a 17th C. Murillo, and a charming c.1850 oil by Jean Platteel.
Of special interest are a superior diamond, sapphire and mother-of-pearl Rolex Oyster Datejust as well as a signed antique flintlock and samurai sword in good condition.
Founder and owner Ron Clarke comments "we have exceptional silver, great American and English furniture, the porcelain plaques, Judaica, and just catalogued, an apothecary cabinet filled with miniature doll furniture. But my personal favorites are the signed bronzes of dogs, and the fine portrait of Silvio, the terrier.
