MANCHESTER, ENGLAND, August 06, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Those staying in Madrid Hotels this summer have until September 20th to see an exclusive exhibition at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza.
Works produced by French artist Henri Matisse, during the period between 1917 and 1941 are currently on display there.
The pieces were completed during the later stages of his career, when the artist began to move away from expressionism and focus on strong lines.
Two themes reoccur in his art throughout this period - odalisques, which he began painting after journeying to Algeria and Morocco, and views from his balcony.
Born in 1869, the artist was renowned for his unique interpretation of space in painting, with some of his most famous works including Madras Rouge and The Dance, which he completed in 1910.
Those interested in attending the exhibition can purchase tickets online, with adult admission to the temporary Matisse collection costing eight euros (GBP6.83).
However, visitors have the option of paying 13 euros and exploring the gallery's permanent collection at the same time.
The Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza is open from Tuesday to Saturday and is home to a book shop, cafe, restaurant and gift store.
Boasting almost 1,000 works, the museum is a must for art enthusiasts interested in tracing the progression of European painting over the last 200 years.
