On the Margins of Art, curated by Guy Schraenen, brings together a series of prints, posters, pamphlets and other documents used for political means during the second half of the 20th century.

According to the museum, the exhibition demonstrates the way in which artists "placed their creative capacity at the service of political demands".

"All the material stems from the combination of various degrees of artistic skill, visual impact and political intention, ingredients to which an enormously creative use of language was often added," the museum noted.

The collection features the work of dozens of artists including Joseph Beuys, Mirtha Dermisache, Antonio Dias, Alfredo Jaar, Barbara Kruger, Jenny Holzer, Victor Mira, Miralda, Muntadas and Maurizio Nannuci.

Visitors can expect to see items produced by a range of anti-establishment and counter-cultural organisations, such as the Black Panther Party, Guerrilla Girls and the Dutch Provo movement.

Another exhibition currently taking place at the museum - which is within easy reach of most Barcelona hotels - is Time as Matter, a collection of recently acquired works by artists including Hans Haacke, Pablo Palazuelo and Gego.
