ORANGE COUNTY, CA, October 03, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A breast lift is a plastic surgery procedure that removes excess skin from the breasts and repositions the breast and areola higher on the chest for a younger, more attractive look. Women with sagging breasts who have lost an excessive amount of weight, who are finished having children, or whose breasts have started to sag with age usually elect to have a breast lift. As with every plastic surgery procedure, breasts lifts need a certain recovery period and certain recovery guidelines need to be followed.
What to Expect Following a Breast Lift
The first two to three weeks of the recovery period usually come with mild swelling, bruising, and discomfort. The discomfort following the breast lift surgery will be managed with pain medications. During these weeks, it is important to:
• Have sponge baths
• Sleep on your back
• Avoid strenuous activities
• Change the dressings around the sutures
Your breast surgeon will give you a surgical bra to wear for the first few days following your procedure. After the first few days, you will be given a support bra to help ensure your comfort and recovery. The support bra will help your breasts stay in a comfortable position and not move too much since movement may cause discomfort.
The sutures will be removed after the first few weeks. You will be able to return to work and your normal activities after the first week. You should not perform any strenuous tasks or bend over as this will place needless pressure on your breasts and may cause discomfort. Activities that place too much pressure on your breasts may lead to swelling and bleeding and will slow your recovery.
Your final breast lift results may not be truly apparent until after a couple of months following the surgery. The swelling and bruising will subside after a month and you should avoid wearing any bras with underwire until a month has passed. Instead of your normal bras, you should wear the support bra at all times to help with recovery.
You may experience numbness in the nipples after the surgery. This is completely normal and will last for about six weeks. Along with numbness, you may feel a tingling sensation in your breasts. This is the result of the nerves returning to normal function. Please do not lift anything heavy or lift anything over your head for about four to six weeks. If you have any questions about your breast lift surgery, please contact your surgeon right away. What you experience during recovery may be normal, but it is in your best interest to contact your surgeon just to be sure.
Breast lift surgery can help return confidence and self-esteem to any woman who is self-conscious about her breasts. Please visit the Newport Beach breast lift website for more information about this and other plastic surgery procedures.
