LOS ANGELES, CA, October 13, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Linkin Park's non-profit organization Music for Relief is partnering with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (HFH GLA) to fund and build an environmentally-friendly, energy efficient home in partnership with a deserving family in need. The interactive campaign is located at MusicforRelief.org/Habitat and kicks off with video clips recorded by Linkin Park, encouraging supporters to give $5 or more, acknowledging that no donation is too big or too small. As supporters make donations they will be able to equate how much they give to various parts of the home; illustrating that $5 is not always just $5, it can also be equivalent to a box of nails. The site also allows donors to give gifts on behalf of others, watch the house progress in real time as they donate and leave messages on the blog.
"Music for Relief has an ongoing partnership with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles, and one of our common goals is to provide safe and decent housing in an environmentally friendly way," said Dave "Phoenix" Farrell of Linkin Park. "If everyone reading this contributes just $5 to the newest Music for Relief/HFH GLA program, you will make it possible for deserving families in Los Angeles to move from substandard housing into energy efficient new homes."
The house will be built to USGBC LEED specification, and will encompass many green building elements in construction and design, while supporting Habitat for Humanity's mission of making simple, decent housing a matter of conscience and action. As founders of Music for Relief, Linkin Park aims to bring the music community together to create positive change. To do this they are uniting artists, music industry professionals and fans to build a Green home in Los Angeles as an example of how individuals can work together to promote sustainability and change lives. Music for Relief has been partnering with Habitat for Humanity since its inception, following the 2004 tsunami in Southeast Asia.
"We are so excited to be launching such a unique online giving program with Music for Relief," says Erin Rank, President/CEO, HFH GLA. "Linkin Park truly cares about helping others and we continue to be inspired by everything they do in support of our efforts. Perhaps more remarkable than their support, is how they have mobilized their fans to help change the lives of so many deserving families around the world."
During the 2007 Projekt Revolution Tour, Music for Relief ran a multi-tiered campaign to raise funds to rebuild gulf coast regions affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita and multiple homes were funded in New Orleans as a result. Linkin Park also offered fans the opportunity to win a chance to build the houses alongside them, when they took a brief detour from their winter tour to get their hands dirty building one of the houses that the project funded. Music for Relief has sponsored several green builds in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and continues to support disaster relief efforts, both domestically and internationally.
