RENO, NV, January 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- According to the US EPA, Americans generate nearly 250 million tons of trash annually. Less than a third of that solid waste is recycled. Two outdoor-loving couples decided they didn't want to contribute to the problem. So, in late 2009 the foursome developed a set of picnic supplies made entirely from recycled, reusable, and organic material. They put everything together into a fully self-contained package and named the product Food's-ON .
Food's-ON , which made its debut at the Philadelphia Gift Show this week, is the only complete set of picnic gear that is entirely "green". Its tablecloth is made from recycled water bottles. Cups, plates, and utensils are made from biodegradable organic materials. Reusable cup holders and plate holders are made from recycled plastic. Napkins are made from recycled paper. And the kit even includes its own biodegradable garbage bag.
Because Food's-ON is made from recycled materials, using the product can help families reduce their overall carbon footprint. This is because recycled products reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions, which contribute to global warming. They also help reduce air and water pollution associated with making new products from raw materials.
"Our goal was to make a sustainable product that is fun and approachable for families. So we decided to make eco-responsible picnic supplies that wouldn't blow away in the wind. The challenge for the product was to find the right fabric for the tablecloth. We experimented with a number of materials, but when we tested P.E.T., we knew we had all the ingredients to bring our idea to reality. Our patent pending picnic technology is truly a unique way to enjoy any outdoor occasion," said Ed Royka, whose official title at the company is Idea Guy.
The product is wind-resistant because its tablecloth is held in place by clips, and cup holders and plate holders are engineered with hook and loop technology that allows them to stick to the tablecloth.
"Cups and plates can be easily picked up and moved around, but they won't blow away in the wind," said Yasmin Royka, one of the company's owners. "Food's-ON also prevents drinks from spilling over, which is great if you have young kids," she added.
Food's-ON puts everything together into a reusable backpack. The backpack has an insulated compartment large enough for ten 12-ounce beverage cans, and helps keep cold foods cold or warm foods warm. There are enough supplies in the backpack for six people.
"Food's-ON provides everything a family needs for a terrific picnic, barbeque, or tailgate party," said Lauren Sellyei, President of the woman-owned company. It's convenient and offers consumers real value," she added.
Picnic supplies are typically sold in large quantities, and each component has to be purchased separately. But most family outings don't require 50 of one item or 24 of another. Because the Food's-ON kit is a setting for six, it includes more than enough picnic supplies for a typical family. So, not only does Food's-ON save money, it also reduces waste.
