HONG KONG, February 13, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Cinema lovers using Hong Kong hotels are in for a treat next month, with the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) due to get underway on March 21st.
Running until April 6th, the event will showcase some of the most talked-about new movies on the international circuit, as well the latest features to emerge from the Hong Kong film industry.
Last month, the festival organisers announced that they had received a record number of submissions for this year's event, with a total of 804 different film projects hoping to take part.
This represents an increase of 120 per cent on the previous year, which means that the programme for the 2010 edition should be more diverse and exciting than ever before.
"We are honoured and proud that the international film community recognises the importance of the HKIFF and sees the value of the festival as an exciting platform to discover and launch global films," said Shaw Soo Wei, executive director of the HKIFF Society.
Artistic director Li Cheuk To added that the list of submissions contains "some of the most innovative works we have seen in years".
Films are shown in 11 cultural venues around Hong Kong during the festival, with over 250 movies expected to make the grade.
The full programme is unveiled on February 25th and ticket sales will begin on February 28th.
