SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ, February 19, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- When it comes to the cosmetic industry, most companies focus on imitation, not innovation. It's the classic case of "catching up" with the competition in order to maintain one's position in the marketplace. True innovation is a rarity in this industry, so when someone comes along with a product that's really new, suppliers take notice.
Such is the case with Ariel Laboratories' new raw material, Luminera, an ingredient that when added to base formulas, such as under eye concealers, tinted moisturizers and lip moisturizers, helps to increase luminosity, making skin appear brighter and more youthful.
According to Peter D. Bohm, president and CEO of Ariel Laboratories, "Luminera is pure innovation. Infusing it into our existing base formulas enhances their functionality with products that appeal to the facial formula needs of women in the thirty-plus age group."
Aging skin, which has been subjected to sunlight, loses its youthful appearance due to an inability to fluoresce blue and green light. This lack of fluorescence often produces an uneven skin tone, discoloration and an overall unhealthy appearance. Most existing facial formulas use opaque pigments that simply cover and mask these imperfections, producing a lackluster look.
However, Luminera uses transparent particles, containing a diamond core complex, that transform invisible UV light into blue light, emitting a natural-looking and youthful glow. As the particles settle on the skin, reflecting a blue glow, they dramatically diminish the expression of wrinkles, discolorations, imperfections, pores, blemishes and pigment anomalies, rendering a more youthful, even-toned and healthy appearance.
Given the fact that consumers are driven to buy cosmetics based on their ability to enhance facial features and provide visible benefits, this recently introduced raw material represents a completely novel approach to diminish facial imperfections. It will have widespread appeal to women who are looking for that "something new" to improve the look of aging skin.
"With many years of experience under my belt, I know that true innovation is something you don't see every day; in fact, it's imitation that typically drives new product releases," said Bohm. "At Ariel Laboratories, we know the difference between innovation and imitation. So, on occasion, when something totally new, like Luminera, really does come along, we understandably get excited. That excitement filters down to our customers, and then to the public, and everybody benefits."
