    MADRID, SPAIN, February 20, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A painting by John Singer Sargent will be on display from early spring in Madrid's Museo Nacional del Prado.

The painting, entitled The Daughters of Edward Darley Boit was painted in 1882 and was commissioned by a friend of artist John Singer Sargent, the titular Edward Darley Boit.

Travellers staying in Madrid hotels can take a look at the oil painting by visiting the Museo Nacional del Prado from March 16th to May 30th 2010.

It will be on display as part of the Invited Work exhibition, which creates points of comparison with pieces already in the gallery by showing art from other institutions, in this case the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

Mr Sargent was apparently inspired by the work of Diego Velazquez and made a trip to Spain in 1879 to make copies of the Spanish artist's work.

This connection can be seen in the way Mr Sargent, who lived from 1856 to 1925, uses "light and atmosphere" in this portrait of the four children, which the Prado describes as a painting of "mysterious naturalism and intense but restrained expressivity".

The Prado is open from Tuesday to Sunday 09:00 to 20:00 local time and costs EUR8 (GBP6.94) or EUR7 if people book in advance on the internet or by phone.
