    PARIS, FRANCE, February 21, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Conductor Philippe Jordan will deliver Richard Wagner's Das Rheingold at the Opera Bastille in Paris, which is the first time it has been performed at the prestigious venue.

Wagner once wrote to his friend Franz Liszt, saying that "no one has ever composed like this" and opera enthusiasts staying at Paris hotels will now have a chance to experience the first part of this groundbreaking piece.

Entitled Prologue in Four Scenes to the Stage Festival Der Ring Des Nibelungen, the show will debut on March 4th, with tickets costing between EUR5 (GBP4.30) and EUR180.

The opera, sung in German, will be performed until March 28th and will see Philippe Jordan conduct, with choreography by Otto Pichler and costumes by Falk Bauer.

With a simple E-flat major chord, which is held throughout the first 137 bars of the piece, Wagner evokes the ever changing nature and eternity of his topic, asserted the venue.

The Opera Bastille added: "It may be the Rhine, but first and foremost it is the world caught in both its perpetual movement and its permanence."

Tickets for the show, which has never been performed by the Paris Opera at the venue, are available to buy at the theatre or online.

Wagner, who lived from 1813 to 1883, completed 13 operas in his lifetime.
