MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA, February 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- One of the highlights of Melbourne's sporting calendar takes place next month, with the Australian Grand Prix getting underway at Albert Park.
The race is scheduled for Sunday March 28th but the action actually begins two days earlier, with the first practice session scheduled for 12:30 local time on Friday March 26th.
People using hotels in Melbourne will be heading down to the city's picturesque street circuit, which winds its way around Albert Park Lake, to catch a glimpse of Formula One stars such as Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
Former world champion Michael Schumacher, who still holds the lap record at the Melbourne track, will also be racing in Australia following his dramatic return to the sport with Mercedes GP.
The Australian Grand Prix is only the second race of the F1 season, following the opening event in Bahrain on March 14th, so each driver will be particularly keen to get some early points on the board.
General admission tickets for the Sunday racing session are currently priced at AU$110.52 (GBP63.41).
As well as the action on the track, people attending the event can look forward to a special performance from pop star Gabriella Cilmi.
The Melbourne native, who had a top ten hit with Sweet Like Me in 2008, will be singing the Australian national anthem before the race.
